Capital B is a first-of-its-kind local and national nonprofit news organization reporting for Black communities across the country. Capital B, which launched on January 31 with a national website and its first local website in Atlanta, is looking for two multimedia journalists who understand how powerful storytelling can be on social media when done right.

The audience engagement producers will join a growing audience team of journalists dedicated to reaching Black news consumers far and wide with Capital B's engaging and original reporting. Through creative Instagram posts, stories, and reels, Twitter threads, Facebook posts, and day-to-day social promotion, the producers will be tasked with finding creative ways to engage and grow audience.

Producers should feel comfortable repurposing Capital B reporters' journalism as well as creating social-native content tied to breaking news or other events that lend themselves better to social content than coverage on our websites. This is a job for someone who has an eye for visual storytelling but is also adept at writing clearly and concisely, who has a passion for telling Black stories, and who is passionate about following and staying engaged with current events.

This position reports to Capital B's director of growth and partnerships.

    SALARY: $70,000+

    LOCATION: Remote

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Promote Capital B's journalism on social channels in visual and written posts
    • Create original social content as needed or assigned
    • Develop creative methods to build and engage audiences
    • Collaborate with newsroom and events team on social-native live journalism events, breaking news, or other original social content.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

    • A love for all things engagement journalism and a keen eye for new and emerging social platforms

    • Excellent news judgment and a passion for following and engaging with current events

    • Experience creating visuals and with design and editing software is a major plus

    • Ability to work independently

    • Clean, clear, concise writing

    • Familiarity with social media data and analytics

    • An extreme audience focus — Capital B's work is not for industry peers or awards committees, although it's a plus if they like it!

    • A non-traditional mindset (Traditional journalism experience is an asset, but Capital B is operating under the belief that some of traditional journalism is broken, and you should be, too.)

    • Empathy, kindness, patience

Please submit your resume and a brief cover note with some info about why you're a good pick for this role by Monday, July 11. Capital B is open to candidates with a diversity of experience, and we know that some very strong candidates won't have all of the qualifications we list. Don't be shy — apply!
