Capital B is a first-of-its-kind local and national nonprofit news organization reporting for Black communities across the country. Cofounded by CEO Lauren Williams (former senior vice president and editor-in-chief of Vox) and Chief Audience Officer Akoto Ofori-Atta (former managing editor of The Trace), Capital B is looking for an investigative reporter who is passionate about sifting through data and documents to uncover big stories that impact the lives of Black people.
Ideal candidates will have a track-record for digging deep on high-impact, undercovered stories. We want a dogged reporter who is skilled at using data analysis and FOIA requests to hold powerful people and institutions accountable. This reporter should have strong news judgment, and their stories should break new ground, set the narrative and compel leaders to action.
Familiarity with computer-assisted reporting and comfort with various data tools is a must. We will be impressed by candidates who also bring top-notch writing skills and demonstrate a knack for narrative storytelling.
This reporter will be a leader in our newsroom, able to work on independent projects as well as collaborations, guiding our beat reporters on ambitious stories that benefit from investigative skills. To that end, candidates should be enthusiastic about covering a wide variety of topics that impact Black people, including education, climate, and criminal justice issues.
