    Capital B is a first-of-its-kind local and national nonprofit news organization reporting for Black communities across the country. Capital B is looking for an audience engagement producer who can harness the power of social storytelling for Black audiences, especially on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

    The producer will join an audience team of journalists dedicated to reaching Black news consumers far and wide with Capital B's original reporting. Through creative, conversational, and informative video and social media copy, Capital B's social platform producer will be tasked with finding creative ways to engage and grow our audience.

    The producer should feel comfortable pitching, scripting, and editing social video, as well as sourcing ideas from breaking news and the conversations Black people are having with each other on and off the internet. This is a job for someone who has sharp video skills, but is also adept at writing clearly and concisely, who has a passion for telling Black stories, and is dedicated to following current events. They may be asked to write social copy for Twitter/X, Facebook, and otherwise contribute to our day-to-day social promotion operations as needed.

    This position reports to Capital B's Audience Development Editor.

    Salary: $70,000 - $80,000

    Location: Remote

    Responsibilities:

    • Pitch creative social video concepts and approaches

    • Research and write scripts for social-first videos in a conversational tone

    • Edit videos to ensure high quality and make use of platform specific tools to encourage engagement

    • Contribute occasionally to video creation as an on camera host or via voiceover

    • Partner with Capital B's Audience and Editorial leadership on platform strategy, idea development, and execution

    • Support with monitoring, analyzing and reporting on social video engagement to inform content strategies

    • Collaborate with newsroom and events teams on social-native live journalism
      events, breaking news, or other original social-first content

    • Provide other video production, editing and original non-video social content as needed or assigned

    What you'll bring:

    • 2-3 years of experience audience or social video newsroom experience
    • Excellent news judgment and a passion for following and engaging with current events
    • Experience creating video content for social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, and others)
    • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
    • Strong video editing skills
    • Strong reporting skills
    • Demonstrated ability to grow an audience on TikTok or Instagram is a major plus
    • On-camera experience or interest is a plus, too!
    • A love for all things engagement journalism and a keen eye for new and emerging social platforms and trends
