    ACTUARIAL INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION

    Capital Insurance Group is seeking a candidate to join our ACTUARIAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.  You will work alongside our creative and entrepreneurial Actuarial Department in Monterey, CA.  We look to partner with a candidate who fits with the CIG culture, excels as a decision enabler, and has the potential to be hired full-time. 

    UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE:

    CIG recognizes the value of investing in our future leaders and has prioritized the development of an industry-leading Actuarial Internship Program.  Our actuarial interns will gain industry expertise in core actuarial disciplines, as well as lead their own analysis under the supervision of the seasoned actuaries.

    • PRICING – Participate in CIG’s Indication process.  Conduct a sound actuarial analysis and support findings.
    • RESERVING – Participate in CIG’s quarterly reserve review process.  Develop the fundamentals of actuarial judgement and record all decision making and support all claims.
    • ANALYTICS – Developing and deploying analytics is part of being a successful intern.  Prior knowledge and (more importantly) the ability to grow on the job will be central to success.
    • LEADERSHIP – Work on a large-scale actuarial related project.  As Intern proves valuable to the team, the intern will be given considerable freedom to pitch ideas and projects.  Qualified candidates will take advantage of this opportunity to leave a legacy on CIG.
    • FEEDBACK – Actuarial mentorship will be used to provide feedback to continually develop strengths and address areas of improvement to achieve a new level of success.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, or related quantitative subjects.
    • GPA of 3.6 or higher is preferred.
    • Completion of one or more actuarial exam is highly preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of SQL and Python or R is preferred.

    SKILLS NECESSARY TO SUCCEED:

    • COMMUNICATION – ability to explain technical analysis to business partners and management, whether in person, in front of a conference room, or through memo.
    • STRONG WORK ETHIC – must be results oriented, prioritize work to meet deadlines.
    • QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE – ability to apply actuarial and statistical concepts to develop business solutions.
    • ADAPTABILITY – has the entrepreneurial spirit to be successful in a dynamic, changing environment and comfortable embracing new technologies.
    • TEAM PLAYER – establish working relationships, foster teamwork and cooperation with others.
