    This position plans and implements the overall nursing policies, procedures, and services for an assigned resident area of MQMC. Manages assigned area by selecting, directing and developing nursing staff.  Ensures that nursing staff members are competent and current in their practice to deliver quality care to each resident. Responsible for evaluating resident care needs; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff; providing physical and psychological support for residents and families.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Identifies resident care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual residents and family members.

    Manages nurses, certified medication technicians (CMTs) and certified nursing assistants (CNAs).  Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  

    Promotes each resident’s independence by establishing resident care goals; teaching and counseling residents and family members; reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills. 

    Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to residents, families and staff members.

    Meets residents’ needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

    Ensures nursing staff members follow nursing guidelines and standards of practice.

    Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing nursing operational and personnel policies and procedures.

    Assures adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements; and to state and federal regulations.  

    Ensures resident care requirements by assigning nursing staff and following up on work results.

    Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees as needed; also, monitoring, and appraising job results.

    Interfaces in a positive and professional manner with all departments within CRSS and maintaining positive employee morale.

    Assists in completing the Minimum Data Set (MDS) in a timely manner, utilizing the information for individualized care planning.  Ensures nursing attendance at resident care conferences as scheduled.

    Ensures that the medical record is maintained, all pertinent, routine and necessary information is documented.

    Protects residents and employees by interpreting and enforcing infection control policies and protocols; medication administration standards; medication storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.

    Ensures the availability of medical equipment; makes provisions for the proper care, use, storage, and billing of supplies and equipment. 

    Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends; and anticipating needed supplies. 

    Provides performance evaluations in according to policies and procedures.

    Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending and participating in inservices, seminars, workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.

    Contributes to the team effort by maintaining a cooperative relationship with other disciplines; by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; and participating in team problem-solving methods. 

    Performs all duties in a professional manner, showing kindness, consideration, and cooperation in regards to residents, families, visitors, and staff.

    Responsible for ensuring staff members follow HR Policies and Procedures.

    Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge & Experience Requirements

    Must be currently licensed and qualified as a registered nurse in the State of Missouri.

    Must possess a specialized interest and experience in geriatrics and nursing care of the chronically ill and convalescent adults.

    Must possess knowledge of regulations governing skilled nursing facilities.

    Must be a licensed practical or registered nurse with at least 5 years of clinical experience in a related field.
