Job Description
We are seeking a talented Senior Scientist to lead our C. elegans and mouse model memory extraction experiments. You will be responsible for improving the design of our experiments in extracting information correlates of memory from chemically fixed neural tissue. In addition, you will interface with the greater neuroscience community with collaborations and presenting contributions made to the field of memory science. You will be creative in developing new approaches for long-term memory research, have a strong aptitude for reviving and adapting older techniques from the literature and the ability to create and maintain collaborations with groups that are pushing the field forward with modern techniques.
General Requirements
- Ph.D. in a biological science plus postdoc or equivalent industry experience
- Demonstrated skills and passion for innovative neuroscience research and identification of new formats for understanding long-term memory
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Deep commitment to working as part of a team
- Solid record of accomplishments and publications
- Prior experience in brain organoids and tissue cultures
- Strong leadership and communications skills
- Familiar with non-standard model organisms
- Previous management experience
- Passion for technological innovation in memory extraction
- Understand the challenges in long-term memory research
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a team of direct reports
- Perform safety reviews
- Plan, write, and review grant applications, experimental proposals, and experimental reports
- Presentation of the work internally, to key visitors of the lab, regulatory interactions, and scientific conferences
- Exploration and adoption of staining and visualization protocols and the refinement of the experiment to improve impact
- Serve as a project team leader and grow the capabilities of junior scientists
