Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Tech or Radiologic Technology program.
- Licensure: Current Ohio RCIS or RT(R, CV) license.
- Experience: 3+ years of catheterization lab experience preferred.
- Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS (must obtain/maintain).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in cardiac cath lab equipment and procedures.
- Soft Skills: Strong teamwork, communication, and adaptability under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides professional, highly technical cardiovascular care to all cardiovascular patients, while assisting physicians during all cardiovascular procedures. Functions as a liaison for patients, families, and physicians. Assists the physician in the operation of technical equipment utilized during all procedures.
- Assists with setting up cardiac cath lab procedure rooms by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment utilized in procedures, pressure monitoring, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, EKG interpretation, sterile technique, and radiation safety practices.
- Proficient in scrubbing, circulating, and monitoring for all Cath Lab procedures.
- Inspects and prepares the operative area as necessary.
- Communicates relevant procedural information to the physician and ancillary personnel.
- Observes sterile technique and proper disposal of infected materials.
- Records EKG information, samples, and records pressure tracings, and informs appropriate personnel of changes during procedure. Maintains complete documentation of cardiovascular procedures. Ensures completion of all registry abstracts. Prepares patient for emergency coronary artery bypass graft by completing proper documentation, sending necessary blood work to the lab, and notifying the CV team.
- Documents all medications given, contrast injections, and attempts at vessel modification (e.g., inflations, shaves, stent placement) and other pertinent information regarding the procedure.
- Responds to emergency situations appropriately and calls for assistance as needed. Provides post-catheterization information to the patient and significant others.
- Assists cardiologist during procedures in a team role by supplying equipment and anticipating routine and special needs.
- Assists in room clean-up after cases, and prepares the room for the next case.
- Performs digital imaging techniques, maintains archival storage of digitized data.
- Collects and enters the correct information required for ACC Data Submission.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all supplies (catheters, guide wires, etc.) and assists with tracking supplies used to aid in proper billing and inventory control.
- Collaborates with other members of the health team to determine and achieve healthcare goals.
- Demonstrates comprehension of cardiac pharmacology.
- Attain working knowledge of the ability to troubleshoot Cath Lab job-related equipment.
- Remove arterial and venous sheaths and complete documentation. Maintain current knowledge of closure devices presently in use and aid with their deployment and post-care.
