  • Responsibilities

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manages all operations and establishes production priorities based on the production schedules furnished by Supply Chain & Materials department. Production areas include, melt, core making, iron poring, molding, casting processing, cleaning and inspection, and Metallurgical Lab activities.
    • Enforces all activities to be performed in line with established safety, OSHA, and documented operational procedures and work instructions in accordance to the Quality Management System and the ISO Quality Principles.
    • Assumes the full responsibility for the Quality Management System in his/her area of responsibility and provides the organizational focus for plant-wide fulfillment of customer requirements and expectations (internal and external). Promotes continual improvement initiatives and monitors product quality, process capabilities and various quality performance indices to ensure products comply with relevant governing standards and specifications.
    • Continually reviews manpower utilization and recommends adjustments in labor force and staffing needs (in conjunction with production schedules) to optimize the foundry and melt performance and departmental efficiencies. Measures results against budgets, and takes appropriate actions to correct weaknesses and inefficiencies.
    • As a part of his/her forward planning responsibility, develops - and if feasible - implements cost savings ideas and projects. Liaisons with other departments to collectively seek new innovative methods or application that will result in product, efficiency and productivity improvement.
    • Actively participates in the development of supervisory ranks in the foundry/melt operations, conducts performance evaluations and recognizes training needs and weaknesses requiring improvements.
    • Deals effectively with disciplinary procedures and coordinates efforts with the HR department. Enforces that all hourly and salaried employees interact and perform their tasks in accordance to the provisions of the labor/union contract.
    • Closely monitors results of all quality surveillance audits (ISO, agencies and internal) and ensures timely corrective actions and closures through effective delegating to area supervisors.
    • Assists the plant controller in establishing of departmental budgets and ensures that the plant’s management is kept thoroughly informed on condition of foundry manufacturing equipment, and in general, to produce required products.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
    • Coordinates procurement of foundry and melt materials, consumables etc. through the Supply Chain & Materials group.
    • Participates in contract negotiations.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 7 - 10 years of production experience in a leadership position. Familiar with mainly ferrous foundry processes, such as: green sand molding, core making, melting, hot metal transport, pouring and casting cleaning operations. Hands on experience with ISO procedures, work instructions, quality criteria and compliance to customer requirements.
    • Requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to direct, manage, and motivate supervisors, technical staff, administrators and plant workers. Provides organizational focus on continuous improvement and goal achievements.
    • Ability to develop employees to their maximum potential regardless of their formal education.
    • Experience with unionized labor force.
    • Basic understanding of cost accounting principles and financial statements.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Work performed in showroom, back room and outside environment. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Exposure to high temperatures during summer months and low temperatures during winter months while performing daily responsibilities. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones, and standard warehouse equipment/machinery such as hand trucks, box cutters, and inventory scanners.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds unassisted, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 150 pounds with assistance. Must be able to go up on ladders to access heights up to 15 feet.
