Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC) is a vibrant, Christ-centered Church in Redwood City, CA dedicated to empowering generations to passionately follow Jesus, one person at a time. The church is comprised of dynamic ministries including Worship, Adult, Youth, Children, Missions (local and international), School-Age Child Care, Preschool, PE+, and our sports and fitness Community Center. PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE
The Care Pastor supports PCC’s mission to know Jesus deeply, follow Him faithfully, and guide the next generation to do the same by cultivating a culture of relational care within the body. This leader provides pastoral presence and shepherding, especially among PCC’s senior adults, through visitation, relational support, pastoral teaching, prayer, end-of-life care, and officiating memorial services when needed.
The Care Pastor also equips and develops volunteer teams to extend Christ-centered care through the Seniors Ministry, Stephen Ministry, Community Care Assistance, Care Team, Visitation Team, and Support Groups so that care is shared, sustainable, and community-building across PCC. Care is offered not only through staff, but through the whole church as the family of God.
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Spiritual Formation Pastor and is the Pastor for our Seniors (60+) Ministry. The Care Pastor also works under the direction of the Spiritual Formation Pastor to continue to jointly cultivate our volunteer ministry teams that help to provide various aspects of congregational care.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pastoral Presence & Senior Adult Shepherding
Provide pastoral presence, relational support, and spiritual encouragement among PCC’s senior adults.
Offer pastoral visitation (hospital, home, care facilities), end-of-life care, grief support, and officiate memorial services when needed.
Teach, resource, and help senior adults continue growing as disciples of Jesus in this stage of life.
Lead and support teams serving senior adults, ensuring relational connection, support, discipleship, and belonging.
Congregational Care Teams Oversight
Support and strengthen PCC’s volunteer-led care teams including Stephen Ministry, Community Care Assistance, Care Team, Visitation Team, and Support Groups.
Pray for those receiving care and equip teams to pray with people in ways that are gentle, Spirit-led, and pastorally appropriate.
Ensure care is shared, sustainable, and practiced through the whole church family, not dependent solely on pastoral staff.
Equipping & Team Development
Identify, recruit, train, empower, and support volunteers to serve in care ministry teams.
Develop future leaders through relational coaching, ongoing equipping, and shared leadership opportunities.
Create healthy rhythms, training pathways, and spiritual formation practices that strengthen volunteers as disciples who care for others.
Congregational Integration & Collaboration
Coordinate care with other PCC ministry teams so individuals and families are not siloed and are supported along PCC’s discipleship pathway.
Work collaboratively across ministries to ensure care aligns with PCC’s culture of spiritual formation and relational discipleship.
Work collaboratively with pastors, staff teams, and volunteers to provide continuity of care for Life Celebrations (memorial services, funerals, weddings), ensuring people are supported before, during, and after these significant moments.
Administrative Leadership
Maintain accurate care tracking systems and follow-up processes.
Provide input on budgets and steward resources wisely.
Ensure care ministry practices align with safe church standards and best practices.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Faithful follower of Jesus
Ordained minister preferred
Masters of Divinity or equivalent preferred; D Min., CPE or APC certification a plus.
Minimum of five years related experience in a church, hospital or other ministry setting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work in a shared office space and maneuver throughout the 14-acre campus to and in various buildings.
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Current and clean CA DMV record and required auto insurance.
Must adhere to PCC’s Safe Church policies, including background check
WORKWEEK
Hours can range from 18-24, with flexibility required.
This position will be expected to participate in Sunday Worship.
