  • Responsibilities

    A Payroll Specialist assists in payroll accounting, transactions, reporting, stop payments, and other operations. They review payroll reports and timesheets for correctness before payroll transactions and ensure employee payroll is processed accurately and timely. They are able to use payroll software with accuracy and efficiency. They are good with numbers and can be trusted with sensitive information. They also have great communication skills to interact with colleagues and executives.

    Required Skills

    DUTIES INCLUDE

    • Accurate data entry through manual and electronic timekeeping methods
    • Prepare and execute pay orders through an electronic system
    • Reconcile/balance Batch totals
    • Process taxes and payment of employee benefits
    • Perform a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, such as:
    • Computing wage and overtime compliance
    • Deductions
    • Balancing and General Ledger inaccuracies
    • Prepare and audit standard system and manual reporting and tracking
    • Review banking information for direct deposit setup and initiate deposits on paydays
    • Detect and process issues related to uncollected payroll
    • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns
    • Prepare and update payroll and processing procedures as needed
    • Keep up with PTO for employees and process accordingly

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Flex scheduling - may start as early at 7:00 AM and routinely as late as 7:00 pm
    • Some holidays and weekend work may be required as needed

     

    Required Experience

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
    • Multi-state payroll
    • Experience in a weekly deadline environment
    • US and Canadian payroll
    • Knowledge of legislation and regulations of the field
    • Ability to multi task
    • Problem solving
    • Detailed and professional
    • Excellent communication skills

    • Electronic payroll system data uploads and manual data entry of timesheets and related hours calculations
    • Microsoft Office 2010 - Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint (including, but not limited to, formatting, inserting, formulas, v_lookups)

    • Microsoft Dynamics GP a plus
    • High School diploma or equivalent; BSc/BA in business, accounting, or relevant field a plus
    • Experience in temporary staffing industry a plus
