  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    • Plans, directs, and supervises the activities of the Career Services Department. Ensures Job Corps-approved curriculum is being taught in individual classrooms and counseling services are provided to each student.

    • Supervises procurement and use of supplemental materials, including multi- media equipment and materials.

    • Monthly audits should be conducted for all areas of oversite to ensure Center is compliance with the PRH.

    • Projects and plans for instructional needs. Ensures proper teaching methods are being employed for the subject area being taught.

    • Plans and administers departmental budget.

    • Ensures adequate class size (student teacher ratio).

    • Ensures adequate caseload size.

    • Prepares and submits reports as required.

    • Participates on all required committees.

    • Jointly, with the Career Technical Training Manager and Academics Manager, is responsible for: counseling students about schedules; scheduling entering students and making schedule changes for others; composing, printing, and distributing weekly master schedule, master summary, and students’ copies of individual schedules.

    • Jointly, with the Mental Health Consultants, ensures all students receive counseling services as required by the PRH.

    • Ensures proper records on students’ progress, performance, etc. are maintained by the instructors and counselors; ensures proper record of students’ attendance is maintained by the Career Services Department, utilizing the CIS Attendance Watch report.

    • Makes recommendations to the Director on all changes to policies and procedures pertaining to the Career Services Department.

    • Conducts regular meetings with department staff.

    • Analyzes data from questionnaires, interviews, group discussions, etc., to evaluate curriculum teaching methods, counseling services, and community participation in education and other programs.

    • Develops a planned orientation program for new instructors and counselors and provides for in-service training of all departmental staff.

    • Assesses personnel needs and works with the Human Resources department to screen and interview potential staff. Recommends promotions, transfers, and merit evaluations within the department. Conducts and prepares performance appraisals.

    • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills.

    • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property.

    • Adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.

    • Fosters and sustains a conducive environment at the center, ensuring it remains free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, thereby ensuring a safe space for both staff and students to engage in work and learning.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.

    • Three to five years related experience required.

    • One to two years of supervisory experience.

    • Experience working with diverse population of youth.

    • A valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
