This educator is responsible for developing and delivering hands-on, career-focused instruction in their field of expertise (e.g., Business, Health Sciences, IT, Engineering, Agriculture, Culinary Arts). The CTE Teacher fosters a learning environment that supports workforce readiness, critical thinking, and real-world application.
Plan, develop, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state CTE standards and industry expectations.
Provide hands-on instruction that simulates real-world workplace scenarios and uses industry-specific tools and technology.
Develop and update curriculum to reflect current trends and demands in the chosen career field.
Assess student progress through projects, exams, and performance-based evaluations.
Maintain accurate student records, including grades, certifications earned, and career portfolios.
Integrate academic and technical instruction to support both college and career readiness.
Supervise students in classroom and lab settings, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and best practices.
Collaborate with local businesses, colleges, and workforce organizations to facilitate internships, job shadowing, and career exploration.
Advise student organizations or career and technical student organizations (CTSOs), such as DECA, FBLA, HOSA, or SkillsUSA.
Maintain and care for classroom and lab equipment; coordinate supply needs and inventory.
Participate in professional development and maintain industry certifications as required.
Serve as a resource and mentor for students considering career paths in technical or vocational fields.
Bachelor's degree in education, vocational education, or a related field
Valid state teaching credential or CTE certification in the appropriate career pathway area.
Proven ability to integrate academic concepts with real-world career skills.
Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Proficiency in technology relevant to the subject area.
Ability to build partnerships with industry professionals and postsecondary institutions.
