    ASSOCIATE TEST ENGINEER

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Carl Zeiss X-ray Microscopy - a leading developer of 3D X-ray computed tomography solutions for imaging micro and nanoscale structures in research and industry, is looking for a talented entry level Test Engineer to integrate, align and test complex opto-mechanical instruments. Along with system testing, there is the certification of critical components through the incoming inspection process. Experience in the alignment of optical systems, aligning and testing robotic positioning systems and troubleshooting of these systems is desirable. Also, experience in test procedure development, root cause analysis and tool qualification is desirable. This is a highly visible position requiring confidence and excellent communication skills.

    The Associate Test Engineer Lvl 1 (ATE 1) is responsible for performing all integration and final test procedures on Carl Zeiss X-ray computed tomography products. With some assistance, this individual will debug and correct all functional problems during integration and final test allowing the system to meet factory and the customer requirements. The ATE 1 will also participate in the incoming inspection process, qualifying critical components selected for incoming testing. They will be required to assist other team members to document, analyze and interpret tests for systems, products or critical components along with implementing any internal quality directives.     PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • First or second shift available, premium pay for second shift, flexible hours
    • Work closely with planning, production and ATE Level 2 and 3’s to ensure timely scheduling and completion of their system during the integration and final test process
    • Ensure all systems meet or exceed written test requirements and specifications
    • Responsible for performance and quality checks of all products shipped to customers
    • Qualify per the written procedures, the quality of selected critical components to be used in the production process through the incoming inspection process
    • Communicating with coworkers and other departments on any issues needing resolution during integration and final test. Must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes.
    • The employee must exhibit a positive attitude towards the various job functions required and must be flexible
    • Employee must be able to interact and relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions
    • Document legibly and accurately all work completed according to company policy, and submit on a timely basis once system ships
    • Prepare and maintain documentation for testing procedures on systems and critical components. Assist in maintaining system manuals to incorporate any new procedures or design changes.
    • Follow the ECR/ECO process to ensure documentation is up to date and current
    • Coordinate any DMR’s created from integration and final test activities and resolve any issues
    • Communicate any delays to the Production Manager and Production Control on systems not meeting the companies or customer requirements (performance or delivery). Propose solutions and implement.
    • Maintain customer information files and ensure accuracy of data
    • Assist in creating and maintaining flow charts and work instructions on all Testing/Quality related tasks
    • Maybe required to travel on occasion to assist in system installations
    • Perform other duties as required

     

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Technical or Associate Level Degree or equal in an Engineering related field OR 4-5 years’ experience in medium to high level testing of opto/electro-mechanical OEM equipment. X-ray/optics experiences a plus. Engineering degree preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of standard optical, mechanical, and electrical test equipment (laser power meters, beam analyzers, DVMs, oscilloscopes, calipers, position sensors, etc)
    • Electrical and mechanical aptitude. Can read and understand mechanical drawings, schematics, BOM’s, sketches and written instructions.
    • Microsoft Office: Excel/Word/Outlook. Creating and maintaining spreadsheets for data gathering
    • Computer literate (beginner level)- Some programming skills, and experience debugging software related issues
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to execute a detailed test document and stay on task to complete per schedule
    • Capability in using production tools (hand and power tools)
    • Exhibit good time management skills
    • Must be organized and a self starter
    • Willingness to travel to customer sites and work overtime and weekends
    • Exhibit strong problem solving skills and initiative
    • Creativity and a solid work ethic a must
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete complex tasks in a fast pace manufacturing environment
    • Relies on sound judgment and experience to meet unwritten quality & performance requirements

    Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to the weather conditions prevalent at the time. Also the employee will be exposed to the conditions in the production area and test areas. The noise level in the work area is usually moderate to extreme.

    Must be available for OT and weekend work as required in addition to minimum 40 hr./wk
