Position Summary
The Carlisle Program Staff member supports the daily operations of the Community CARES shelter by providing a safe, respectful, and structured environment for clients experiencing homelessness. Program Staff assist with front desk operations, resident engagement, documentation, facility coordination, and daily program activities.
This role requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries, and a commitment to trauma-informed care while supporting individuals and families working toward stability.
Key Responsibilities
Shelter Operations
Monitor daily shelter activities to ensure a safe and respectful environment
Manage front desk operations including answering phones and responding to inquiries
Oversee resident sign-in procedures and maintain accurate daily records
Coordinate shower and laundry scheduling for residents
Assist with mail distribution and resident communication
Resident Support
Maintain respectful and supportive interactions with residents
Encourage participation in chores and community responsibilities
Monitor adherence to shelter guidelines and expectations
Support client in maintaining shared living spaces
Provide appropriate referrals to case management staff when needed
Documentation & Recordkeeping
Maintain accurate records including resident logs and program documentation
Complete incident reports when necessary
Update daily shift communication logs
Enter required information into the CharityTracker system
Track shower, laundry, and facility usage logs
Safety & Crisis Response
Respond appropriately to conflicts or behavioral incidents
Utilize trauma-informed communication and de-escalation techniques
Follow shelter safety and emergency procedures
Notify supervisors or emergency services when appropriate
Document incidents according to agency procedures
Donations & Inventory
Assist with receiving and organizing donations
Track inventory of hygiene supplies and basic needs items
Distribute supplies to residents according to program procedures
Maintain organized storage areas
Volunteer Support
Welcome volunteers and service groups
Provide guidance for volunteer tasks and projects
Ensure volunteers follow safety procedures while on site
Coordinate with staff regarding volunteer activities
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience working in human services, shelters, social services, or community programs
Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry
Physical & Work Environment
Ability to move throughout the shelter facility during shifts
Occasional lifting of donations or supplies
Ability to respond to crisis situations or emergencies when necessary
Work environment may include individuals experiencing trauma, mental health challenges, or crisis situations
Schedule
This position may include:
Day shifts
Evening shifts
Weekend shifts
Schedules may vary based on program needs.
