Role objective: Captains will be expected to ensure that all cargo and passenger deliveries are completed safely and in a timely manner. You must have experience operating a boat with inboard twin screw propulsion. Position is Shoreside not live aboard. You will be on-call and expected to work at any hour while on-call. Trips expected to exceed 12hrs will have a relief captain/mate. As much notice as possible is given prior to every job but captains are expected to be ready to come in with short notice while on-call. Options to work days off when available are compensated but not required. You will be expected to direct the crew and operate the vessel, occasionally train new crewmen.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain outboard engines.

Safely operate, navigate, maintain, and troubleshoot all vessel systems.

Ensure proper watchkeeping from crew.

Complete JSA prior to every job.

Keep accurate vessel logs (Including but not limited to)

Passenger Logs

Maintenance Logs

Oversee and ensure basic vessel/engine/generator maintenance is completed

Pre and post departure checklist logs

Ability to operate a forklift.

Safely operate small passenger vessels.

Oversee crew.

Direct loading/offloading operations of the vessel

Safely complete cargo and passenger deliveries alongside ships

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

· Valid Driver’s License. · Valid Transportation Worker ID Card (TWIC.) · Valid OUPV USCG Master’s License (minimum). · Valid USCG Approved First Aid/CPR. · FCC Marine Radio Operator’s Permit preferred. · Valid USCG Medical Certificate. · Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. · Leadership skills · Familiarity with shipboard navigation systems

Education:

High School degree or equivalent or other related field required.

5-10 years’ experience as a crew boat operator (preferred).

Working Conditions:

Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.

Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.

Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels, and the light is intense/glare.

Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.

Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.

Work surface is stable, height is elevated.

Worker is subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside, with no effective protection from weather, with sufficient noise to cause

the worker to shout to be heard, and to physical hazards, such as moving parts, vehicles, electricity, heights, and large bodies of deep water

Physical Requirements:

Ability to Lift/Carry/Push/Pull up to 100lbs

Operate motor vehicles

Wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, safety glasses, goggles and full body coveralls.
