    Salary Range: $90,000 - $117,000

    BACKGROUND


    Carmen Schools of Science and Technology (Carmen) is the largest public charter school network in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a mission to graduate all students as critical thinkers and self-directed learners prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life. Carmen Schools currently operates five campuses, each one is as an independent charter school authorized by Milwaukee Public Schools or UW-Milwaukee.

    POSITION SUMMARY


    Carmen seeks a proven school leader who understands and commits to the Carmen mission to ensure all students graduate prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life.

    Accountable to the Carmen Chief Schools Officer, the High School Principal is the instructional and cultural leader of the school who works collaboratively to create and maintain a school culture and instructional program that meets rigorous academic standards and supports individual growth for scholars and teachers. The Principal creates a safe and joyous learning environment, works with families and community members, responds to diverse community interests, and mobilizes community resources. Carmen Principals act with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner as they model Carmen's habits of achievement, mind, and heart.

    QUALIFICATIONS


    • Master's degree required
    • Minimum of 5 years of urban teaching experience; high school teaching experience required
    • Minimum of 5 years of full-time, urban, administrative experience. Principal experience strongly preferred
    • Principal licensure issued by Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction (or eligibility for such licensure).
    • Spanish proficiency preferred
    • Visionary leader with experience building a school culture that drives academic excellence while simultaneously supporting whole child development
    • Demonstrated understanding of secondary school pedagogy, assessment, and data driven decision making

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


    The Principal is the strategic leader of academics, culture, and community who is responsible for leveraging the strengths of faculty, staff, students and families to ensure students demonstrate significant and measurable change in academics and personal development.

    • Develops and executes the campus vision and mission in alignment with the Carmen vision, mission, and strategic plan
    • Ensures that high-quality, empirically tested, standards-based curricula and aligned assessments are utilized at all grade levels and in all coursework to measure individual and collective progress towards standards mastery and equitable outcomes
    • Ensures that teachers and leaders utilize backwards design and modeling to develop rigorous standards-aligned courses, units, and assessments. Maintains a system that provides regular progress reports to students, families, teachers, and leaders
    • Models and supports data-driven planning and instruction across all content areas
    • Supports and coaches instructional teams and teachers as they set and monitor individual student, grade level, and subject matter goals
    • Empowers teachers to conduct data analyses using formative and summative assessments to identify strengths and areas of need. Supports faculty as they use data to deliver appropriate instructional strategies, interventions, and supplemental instruction so that students master content are prepared for college, career, and community life
    • Reinforces strong performance by celebrating teachers and students as they grow and achieve as well as reach milestones and exceed expectations
    • Clearly communicates campus expectations to all stakeholders (students, families, and staff) through written communication, verbal communication, and modeling
    • Empowers staff to create and maintain a rigorous and joyous school climate by communicating consistently and holding adults and scholars accountable to high expectations
    • Ensures that school rules, routines, and consequences reflect Carmen's vision, mission, and habits
    • Welcomes students, staff, families, and community members to the campus with respect and joy
    • Responds to family concerns and enlist family members to actively support their scholar's academic and emotional growth
    • In collaboration with the Carmen network team, fills all open team positions with highly qualified, mission-aligned individuals
    • Supervises and develops direct reports in accordance with the Carmen mission and vision and the employee handbook
    • Ensures that all employees receive professional development opportunities that supports their individual growth and drives overall progress for Carmen scholars
    • Creates a positive adult culture so that each team member recognizes their importance to the Carmen mission and implements that mission with integrity, fidelity, and urgency
    • Ensures that all team members receive regular feedback on their job performance that includes areas of strength and weakness. Completes formal evaluations that give specific feedback to team members in a timely manner. When a team member is not performing well, provides the support needed to be successful or, when necessary, removes the individual from the position
    • Identifies potential leaders and provides growth opportunities
    • Maintains transparency in decision-making and involves stakeholders in decision-making whenever possible
    • Maintains visibility in the community and engages members to support and implement the Carmen mission and vision
    • Develops, manages, and monitors the campus budget in collaboration with the Carmen central office team and School Operations Manager
    • Collaborates with the School Operations Manager to ensure smooth school operations, including communication, teaching, learning, and staff management
    • Actively collaborates with and supports the Admissions team to maintain and hopefully increase enrollment
    • Actively engages and collaborates with other Principals
    • Serves as a resource within Carmen network
    • Other responsibilities as assigned
