    Carmen Schools of Science and Technology is seeking English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers for the 2024-2025 school year!

    Salary Range: $45,900 (0 Years) - $85,350 (25 Years)

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher will ensure the mission of Carmen to serve ALL students is alive and well across our campuses through instruction and support to English Language Learner (ELL) students K-12th grade. The goal of this position is to guide English Language Learners toward gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing by providing small group instruction, support in core academic classes and collaborating with classroom teachers. The ESL teacher works under the direction of the Principal in conjunction with the Director of Student Services.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Absolute belief in the ability of all students to learn and achieve and commitment to ending educational inequity in Milwaukee.

    2. Bachelor's Degree

    3. Wisconsin DPI license in (395) English as a Second Language

    4. Three (3) or more years as a successful classroom teacher.

    5. Significant school experience working with English Language Learners.

    6. Demonstrated leadership and organizational ability in working with administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community.

    7. Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently

    8. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response

    9. Access to vehicle/reliable transportation to travel between school campuses on a daily/weekly basis.

    10. Bilingual in Spanish and English required

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    ● Provide EL push in and/or pull out instruction to students

    ● Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement and ongoing monitoring of student progress.

    ● Communicate language needs and progress of ELL students with classroom teachers, administrators and families.

    ● Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction.

    ● Work with establishing relationships with ELL parents, including those who don't speak English.

    ● Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting.

    ● Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday; however, this position will require work on evenings and weekends as necessary.
