Carmot Therapeutics, Inc. is a biotechnology company headquartered in Berkeley, California, focused on the discovery and development of novel drugs for the treatment of metabolic diseases and cancer. Carmot is applying an innovative technology, Chemotype Evolution, to overcome the limitations of conventional drug discovery technologies to identify drugs for the most challenging of therapeutic targets. We are seeking a versatile and creative organic chemist to join the Discovery Chemistry team to advance and expand upon the capabilities of the Chemotype Evolution platform.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

Carmot employs a high-throughput synthesis and screening platform, Chemotype Evolution (CE), to efficiently search vast chemical space for novel drug molecules (for more details on how CE works, see: https://vimeo.com/561563221). In this position, you will play a leading role in expanding CE's reach by developing innovative high-throughput chemistries and implementing them against our pipeline of disease targets.  This will be a truly multi-disciplinary pursuit: you will collaborate closely with chemical biologists, medicinal chemists, biochemists and cell biologists.    This opportunity is ideal for a team-oriented organic chemist excited to apply their knowledge in chemistry to early-stage drug discovery in a dynamic fast-paced company setting.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

    • PhD in Chemistry with emphasis in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, synthetic organic methodology or related field with zero to five years post-graduation research experience
    • Knowledge of a variety of chemical transformations (e.g.,  cross-coupling, reductive amination, photocatalytic reactions) obtained through hands-on experience
    • Experience with combinatorial chemistry (e.g., DNA-encoded libraries, parallel screening) or high-throughput synthesis (HTS) is a plus
    • Interest in exploring a wide range of robust chemical transformations to expand a unique synthetic platform
    • Self-motivated and passionate about innovative research in drug discovery
    • Documented ability to perform impactful research (e.g., peer-reviewed publications)
    • Strong skills in verbal and written communication
    • Authorization to work in the US

This is an onsite position in our Berkeley, CA location
