    Carmot Therapeutics (“Carmot”) is focused on the discovery and development of transformative therapies for patients with serious unmet medical needs. Carmot applies Chemotype Evolution (CE), a pioneering drug discovery technology, in combination with unique biological expertise to identify innovative and superior therapeutics. In metabolic disease, Carmot is combining CE with novel insights into incretin receptor signaling to develop a broad, valuable pipeline of peptide- based and small molecule therapeutics.  Carmot's lead program, a dual GLP-1/GIP receptor modulator, is entering phase 2 development and has the potential to be best in a new class of treatment for type 2 diabetes and other related indications. In addition, Carmot is internally, and with partners, using CE to identify novel covalent inhibitors and to develop new therapeutics targeting major oncogenic pathways. Carmot has successfully applied CE with strategic partners including the discovery collaboration with Amgen that led to AMG 510, the first KRAS inhibitor to enter the clinic.

    We are seeking an ambitious and experienced legal professional to join the team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the biotechnology industry supporting clinical, manufacturing, and research teams, and wants to apply her or his legal experience in a rapidly growing company. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is willing to assume broad responsibilities, and can appropriately analyze and manage risks, and communicate well. We seek a team member who wants to be fully integrated into every aspect of the company from research to business execution.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    In this position, you will report to the Chief Business Officer and oversee and lead execution of Carmot's general, clinical, manufacturing and research contracting needs as well as provide general legal support and expertise to the Company.

    You will work closely with business and scientific leaders across functional areas and will be directly responsible for leading, negotiating and managing corporate contracts. You must be excellent at multitasking and have the courage to push the boundaries and assume a broad array of responsibilities

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts in support of the company's business and general operations, including MSAs, SOWs, MTAs, manufacturing and supply, software licenses, consulting agreements, engagement letters, clinical trial and investigator initiated study agreements
    • Ensure the consistent and timely delivery of high quality and compliant agreements while providing clear, practical and business-oriented guidance on all contracting issues through the entire contracting process
    • Establish strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues to support the training and education of internal clients on company policies and good contracting practices
    • Provide high quality, timely and practical legal advice and support, and analyze company activities for compliance with evolving legal and regulatory landscape
    • Conduct legal research, as needed
    • Support management of IP matters, strategy and mgt. of external IP counsel
    • Support and enhance use of outside counsel re business development and financing related activities
    • Review presentations, press releases, website materials, brochures, and other company communications (internal and external)

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school; admission in good standing with any state bar (California preferred)
    • 5+ years of biotech related legal, clinical and general contracts experience at a nationally recognized law firm or as in-house counsel
    • Knowledge of U.S. and foreign regulatory and compliance matters relevant to the biopharmaceutical industry
    • Comfortable learning and using tools and technology to improve process efficiency and transparency
    • Enthusiastic and resourceful
    • Process oriented with attention to detail and strong analytical thinking skills
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
