Scientist I – Discovery Chemistry

Carmot Therapeutics, Inc. is a biotechnology company headquartered in Berkeley, California, focused on the discovery and development of novel drugs for the treatment of metabolic diseases and cancer.  Carmot is applying an innovative technology, Chemotype Evolution, to overcome the limitations of conventional drug discovery technologies to identify drugs for the most challenging of therapeutic targets.  We are seeking a versatile and creative organic chemist to join the Discovery Chemistry team to advance and expand upon the capabilities of the Chemotype Evolution platform.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Chemotype Evolution (CE) employs high-throughput chemistry and screening to efficiently and iteratively “evolve” drug candidates (see: https://vimeo.com/561563221).  You will play a key role in developing innovative new chemistries to expand upon the range of drug-like compounds and modalities accessible to CE.  This opportunity is ideal for an organic chemist interested in a non-traditional role applying their knowledge in chemistry to supercharge a platform technology for early drug discovery.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• PhD in Chemistry with up to 2 years post-graduation
• Broad knowledge of a variety of chemical transformations obtained through hands-on experience a must
• Experience with combinatorial chemistry (e.g., DNA-encoded libraries) is highly desirable
• Self-motivated and passionate about innovative research in drug discovery
• Documented ability to perform impactful research (e.g., peer-reviewed publications)
• Strong skills in verbal and written communication
• Authorization to work in the US
