    Job Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Monitoring and Support, the Data Analyst will turn data into information and information into insight. Will use people-driven, data-informed decision making to promote continuous quality improvement across all Carole Robertson Center for Learning programs and demonstrate the Center’s quality and impact to funders. The Data Analyst will develop analysis and reporting capabilities for maintaining accurate and confidential data files of student achievement and adult practices. The Analyst will provide data literacy training for teachers and administrators to support the use of data to improve outcomes. This position will also apply appropriate statistical measurements to data, review program, city, state, and national data to develop comparison trends, and design and develop reports as requested. The Data Analyst will work to root out bias in data collection and systems, and use data analysis to promote justice and equity.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS:

    • Demonstrated experience in communicating technical information, both in writing and orally, in a manner that is understandable to people without technical training;
    • Knowledge of data processing software and the ability to learn new software and processes as they become available;
    • Experience in using academic data to impact instruction, planning, and continuous quality improvement;
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff from various areas of responsibility;
    • Knowledge of quality management and systems thinking;
    • Self-motivated and able to work in a quick-paced environment;
    • Ability to design and format data files and tables and to modify and update such structures as required;
    • Ability to explain data requirements to technical staff in order to design, implement and test database systems;
    • Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner;
    • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality;
    • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports;
    • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems;
    • Oversee migration of data between systems;
    • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets;
    • Filter and “clean” data by reviewing reports and performance indicators to locate and correct inconsistencies;
    • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities;
    • Create and manage data stores to house extracted data from a variety of sources;
    • Create user-friendly reports to assist stakeholders in data-driven decision making;
    • Support staff in the development of reports from data to meet reporting requirements;
    • Develop protocols to ensure data accuracy;
    • Fulfill various data requests;
    • Ensure the validity of all data presented to staff;
    • Develop and maintain historical student and program data files to monitor and track performance;
    • Analyze and prepare reports from various data sources as it relates to individual student outcomes and staff performance;
    • Compile data from multiple assessments to develop student achievement profiles;
    • Interpret and review assessment data with administrators and teachers, supporting planning of action steps;
    • Attend, and lead as appropriate, training sessions and site meetings related to assigned responsibilities; and
    • Play a critical role in supporting all Carole Robertson Center for Learning program assessment efforts.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of a BS in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics;
    • Proven working experience as a data analyst;
    • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques;
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects, etc.), databases (SQL, etc.), programming (XML, JavaScript, or ETL frameworks);
    • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.);
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
    • Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings;
    • Ability to gain working knowledge of various assessment tools (ECERS, ITERS, SACERS, CLASS, DECA/DARS);
    • Ability to gain working knowledge of Chicago Early Learning Standards, NAEYC accreditation standards, and Head;
    • Excellent oral and written skills;
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to multi-task with demonstrated attention to detail;
    • Ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects effectively and ability to work well under tight deadlines;
    • Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, or other times as required;
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and requirements; and
    • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.
