    JOB TITLE: Restaurant Server

    DEPARTMENT: Restaurant

    Reports to: Restaurant Assistant Manager/Restaurant Manager

    ESSENTIAL PURPOSE: Provides food and beverage services to guests in a friendly efficient, and professional manner, ensures a positive experience for all patrons.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

    Greets guests upon arrival; assists with seating as needed.

    Presents menus/wine list to guests and describes all daily specials.

    Takes food and beverage orders accurately and courteously; responds to patrons’ questions regarding food and beverage items.

    Opens/presents/pours wines and champagnes in a professional manner as needed.

    Accurately writes tickets for food and beverage items; turns tickets into kitchen/bar in a timely manner; coordinates with kitchen staff to clarify any requests.

    Maintains complete knowledge of and strictly abides by state liquor regulations; verifies legal drinking age of patrons as needed.

    Reviews food order for accuracy and presentation prior to delivering to patron; coordinates with kitchen staff to rectify any deficiencies.

    Refills patrons’ beverages as requested; monitors patrons during meals to provide for all needs.

    Suggests desserts to patrons at completion of meal; accurately takes and delivers dessert orders.

    Delivers ticket to patrons upon meal completion.

    Handles purchasing transactions, which includes accounting of daily sales.

    Receives payment form patrons; makes change as needed; issues receipts.

    Clears and resets tables as needed.

    Possesses and maintain thorough knowledge of all beverage selections available and characteristics/description of every wine/champagne on the wine list and by the glass; all menu items, preparation method/time, ingredients, sauces, portion sizes, presentation, and prices.

    Maintain cleanliness and sanitation at all items; performs closing clean-up duties.

    Resolves patron problems/complaints; utilizes own best judgment in resolving issues or refers to management as needed.

    Answers phone in a courteous and timely manner.

    Assist other staff members as needed to ensure optimum service to all guests.

    Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE: One year previous restaurant experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of state liquor regulations; ability to identify when a patron has had his/her alcohol limit.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Spends majority of time indoors. Bi-level structures. Extensive facility. Indoor: temperature-controlled, clean, and well-lighted offices, guest rooms, and public areas. May work on wet concrete and uneven tile. Moderate exposure to hazardous substances and fumes. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands and walks short to moderate distances through shift. Bends, stoops, and reaches to perform routine job tasks. Routinely required to handle and move objects weighing up to 30 lbs. over moderate distances.

    IMPACT OF DECISION: Decisions directly impact the restaurant’s ability to provide guests with attractive, clean, and hygienic areas. Poor decisions may result in guest dissatisfaction and loss of revenues, due to inefficient or improper work, unsafe work practices, or improperly handled customer service situations.

    GENERAL: Must comply with the Company’s Appearance and Dress Code policy as set forth in the Employee Handbook.

    JOB CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as non-exempt and, upon completion of the Introductory Period, the employee is eligible for the Employee Benefits outlined in the Employee Handbook. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the company reserves the right to amend, change or discontinue the policies, practices and benefits described in the handbook at any time and without notice.

    NON-EXEMPT POSITION: Non-Exempt employees are subject to the wage and hour laws and entitled to overtime pay. All overtime work by a non-exempt employee must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor or the General Manager and the time initialed by him/her on the time card. Non-exempt employees who work overtime without prior approval are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

    AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT: The relationship between South Coast Winery Resort & Spa and the employee is for an unspecific term and is considered “at will”. This means that the terms and conditions of employment may be changed, with or without cause and with or without notice, including, but not limited to termination, demotion, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, duties and location of work. No one other than the President of the Company has the authority to make any verbal or written agreements contrary to this provision and any such agreement must be put in writing and signed by the President before it is effective.
