Purchasing Manager in Materials Management
Hybrid Westchester, NY
Open due to promotion. Accountable for the control and negotiation of purchasing packaging components and raw materials in a manner that assures cost effective and timely purchases, while maintaining a strong, ethical business relationship with all company suppliers. MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY TO BE CONSIDERED.
Responsibilities:
· Define the strategy for the Raw Materials category, identifying short- and mid-term goals for alternative raw materials and savings in overall spending.
· Negotiate contracts with suppliers as needed to insure price stability and continuity of supply.
· Actively maintain a close working relationship with Technical, Supply Chain, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance and other disciplines as required to provide optimum communication.
· Responsible for managing all material supply chain activities that support production, such as directing buyers for purchases and working with plant schedulers to meet production schedules.
· Monitor inventories of raw materials at the plants.
· Develop supply options and contingency plans for risk management.
· Monitor supply markets and trends (e.g., material price increases, shortages, changes in suppliers, starting raw material tracking) interprete impact of trends on company strategies.
· Provide leadership with market trends and supplier insights that influence and drive future processes or strategic procurement improvements.
· Introduce new technologies and products to keep competitive advantage as well as looking for opportunities for collaboration and partnering.
· Analyze supplier performance to assess ability to meet quality and delivery requirements.
· Keep the internal departments aware of price fluctuations in order to maintain accurate records, via up-to-date maintenance of computerized price book.
· Support all relevant imports / exports from suppliers, other related subsidiaries, licensees and subcontractors.
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor's. Business, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science
· Minimum 8 years purchasing / negotiating experience with large dollar/volume contracts
· Fundamental knowledge of compliance / legal for supply contracts. NDA’S etc.
· Prior experience with quality system (i.e. ISO 9000)
· Demonstrated ability to build strategic vendor relationships
· High ethical standards, superior follow-up, organizational skills, strong communication
· Ability to plan and manage multiple projects
· Computer proficiency w/ Excel, Outlook and demonstrated ability to learn JDEdwards
Preferred Skills & Experience:
· Knowledge of masterbatch industry, and prior experience purchasing such as Carbon Black, resins (PET, Nylon, ABS, SAN, PC) and additives (Flame Retardants, UV, AO, Amides, Stearates)
