  • Responsibilities

    DATA CURATION INTERN

    The student will work with the library director to implement and populate a new institutional research data repository. The student will also have the flexibility to work with staff scientists and data managers on a variety of data and statistical projects.

    The student will gain experience with scientific data, using data management tools and statistical software, performing statistical analyses and working with structured metadata.

    DURATION

    June 4, 2018 - August 10, 2018, 10-15 hours/week, Monday-Friday. Schedule is flexible.

    LOCATION

    Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, NY

    DUTIES

    This internship will allow the student some flexibility. The student will,

    • help implement and curate the data repository
    • assist staff scientists and data managers with specific data projects

             and statistical analyses

    • organize and prepare data or other research outputs for ingests in

             the data repository

    • work with tolls that facilitate structured metadata

    The student will work with Amy Schuler, Director of Information Services & Library

    COMPENSATION

    This internship includes a stipend. We will work with academic institutions to provide credit for the internship, if applicable.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The candidate should:

    • have experience working with scientific or technical data
    • have excellent organizational skills
    • be able to work independently and communicate clearly
    • be familiar with common office applications (e.g. spreadsheets)

    Background with environment science and familiarity with databases would be useful.
