    CARY INSTITUTE IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION:

    EDUCATION DATA INTERN DESCRIPTION: The Education Data Intern is responsible for updating and organizing long-term ecological datasets and background information for the Hudson Data Jam (HDJ) competition. The HDJ is an annual competition where students in grades 4-12 analyze long-term datasets from the Hudson Valley, write a report, and develop a creative project that communicates the science story.

    DURATION: This is a temporary, full time 6-to-8 week position from late May through early August with start and end dates to be determined.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • ● Work with Cary educators to identify high priority HDJ datasets.
    • ● Contact scientists and other organizations who source the data to bring the datasets up to date.
    • ● Organize the datasets to be easily accessible and approachable by a student audience. This includes creating detailed metadata and updating background information sheets where necessary.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • ● College coursework in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field
    • ● College coursework and experience  working with scientific data
    • ● Experience outside of the classroom organizing and analyzing scientific data
    • ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • ● Background and interest in Hudson Valley ecosystems
    • ● Teaching experience in formal and/or informal settings
    • ● Ecological/environmental field or lab research experience from college, internships, or jobs

    Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Finalist candidate may be subject to driving background check.  

    COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt, non-benefited position.

    STARTING DATES: Preferred start date is May 23, 2022.
