Development and Communications Assistant
Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is an independent nonprofit center for environmental research. Since 1983, our scientists have been investigating the complex interactions that govern the natural world and the impacts of climate change on these systems. Our findings lead to more effective management and policy actions and increased environmental literacy. Our staff are global experts in the ecology of: cities, disease, forests and freshwater.
Cary Institute seeks candidates for the position of DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT. The DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT will serve as the Development and Communication team's primary research and acquisition specialist, manage the ‘Friends of Cary' donor portfolio, provide support for fundraising and outreach goals, and assist with the production of materials. This position will work closely with members of the Development and Communications team.
The Assistant will possess at least 3 years of relevant experience, with demonstrated ability to raise donations of at least $100 consistently. S/he/they will:
Provide support for the Development and Communications team. Such support will include, but is not limited to:
Manage acquisition strategies for potential donors at $250 to $749. Such strategies will include, but are not limited to, research, direct mail/social media campaigns, events, and tours;
Oversee acknowledgement and donor recognition programs for the ‘Friends of Cary' program for donors of between $1 and $749 annually;
Conduct donor research and assist the team in assigning donors to the appropriate team member;
Manage the department messaging schedule;
Assist with the production of campaign and event materials as well as electronic communications;
Assist with event planning, registration, check-in, and follow up communications, and;
Assist with managing the NeonCRM database and improving data hygiene.
Assist the Senior Director with managing appointments and communications with Trustees, donors, foundations, corporate representatives, and collaborative fundraising partners.
Monitor and track progress toward institutional goals, including follow-up on meetings and events, and provide required internal statistical reports as requested.
Assist in providing coverage for Reception.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and oral communication abilities. Proficiency with customer relations database systems, programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat) and internet research tools such as Google and Parcel Access are required. The ideal candidate will have prior development experience and experience using Adobe InDesign. An Associate's degree or equivalent plus 3 years of experience is preferred.
This is a salaried, non-exempt, benefitted, full time position of 35 weekly hours. Regular schedule is 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Mondays – Fridays. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends preferred. Finalist candidates will be subject to background check.
