    Job Description

    We’re looking for a media relations expert to manage media relations across Cash App’s brand, product, and any critical issues that may arise in the field of fintech. The ideal candidate has a successful record of managing strong press relationships and has a keen understanding of topics that sit at the intersection of consumer entertainment, culture, technology, and financial services. The person chosen thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven working environment. The ideal candidate brings solid know-how and passion relating to issues such as economic empowerment and general financial inclusion. The candidate must be operationally rigorous, self-disciplined, and organized. This role requires the ability to explain the dimensions of Cash App’s product strengths and strategic vision to the media, while also being able to articulate the differentiators of our increasingly mainstream brand to both a consumer and business audience. This role will report into the Head of Corporate Communications for Square, Inc. while collaborating cross-functionally with the broader Cash App and Communications and Public Policy Teams at Square.

    YOU WILL:

    • Collaborate closely with Square Corp Comms, and Cash App’s Marketing and Brand team

    • Serve as on-the-record spokesperson and handle rapid response as needed, including on product issues related to risk, security, privacy, regulatory matters, potential policy violations on the Cash App platform, etc.

    • Cultivate ongoing media relationships with consumer and business press 

    • Develop a keen understanding of what makes our product and culture special and make recommendations around how to express that within the context of the media

    • Develop and execute reactive and proactive communications plans 

    • Serve as Cash App’s main point of contact for day-to-day queries from press 

    • Support your comms colleagues, informing them of media issues that may arise 

    • Maintain a strong level of administrative and operational rigor, producing reports, analysis, and data on Cash App’s overall position in the media and public discourse 

    • Drive announcements and launches for select products – including in international markets

    • Create and own a regularly updated media list of key journalists to engage

    • Develop and maintain reporter relationships across consumer, entertainment, financial, business, and tech publications

    • Act fast and be willing to make changes when the unexpected occurs 

    • Work cross-functionally across teams within Cash App and Square, Inc.

    YOU HAVE:

    • 7+ years of relevant experience in communications, brand, and marketing, including media relations in consumer, entertainment, and music

    • Excellent writing, editing, and messaging skills

    • Good humor, humility, and high levels of empathy

    • A global mindset and an ability to work with different cultures, perspectives, and attitudes

    • A thoughtful, considered, and compassionate approach to your work and colleagues 

    • Strong relationships in media, entertainment, brand, and agency industries required; music and fashion industry experience a plus

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, pressurized environment, and to meet deadlines consistently

    • Flexible, amiable, a good colleague, and a strong, committed collaborator

    • The ability to garner support from internal experts and external partners to position Cash App’s product against competition

    • The ability to adapt to new situations quickly and think on your feet 

    • Hustle and determination

    • BA/BS degree required
