    Department: Front of House Position Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Front of House Manager / Manager-on-Dut

    Position Summary:

    The Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while processing transactions, taking orders, and serving food and beverages at the counter or table. This position plays a critical role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests, ensuring smooth operations, and supporting food and beverage preparation. The Cashier will also help maintain cleanliness and organization in the dining area and front-of-house stations. Reports to Front of House Manager / Manager-on-Duty.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Provide friendly and welcoming service to all customers, consistently acting in line with the values of Lodge Bread Company.

    Take and process food and beverage orders accurately through the POS system, ensuring clear communication with customers regarding menu options and recommendations.

    Handle payments with a cash register, credit card processing machines, and mobile payment methods, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately and efficiently.

    Prepare and serve a variety of food items including sandwiches, salads, pastries, and hot meals, following standard portion sizes and recipes.

    Ensure that all menu items are packaged properly for takeout orders, and handle special customer requests with care.

    Refill and restock beverages, condiments, and service items throughout the shift to ensure smooth and continuous service.

    Maintain cleanliness of the cashier station, dining areas, and customer service zones. This includes wiping down surfaces, sweeping floors, and removing trash as needed.

    Brew and prepare coffee, tea, and other beverages, including cappuccinos and espresso drinks, in a timely and professional manner.

    Support the kitchen and barista teams by coordinating the flow of orders and assisting with minor food preparation tasks as necessary (e.g., assembling simple dishes, replenishing bakery items).

    Assist with inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting any shortages to the manager.

    Uphold Lodge Bread Company’s food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards at all times.

    Respond to customer inquiries, address complaints with professionalism, and ensure a high level of guest satisfaction.

    Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure timely delivery of food orders.

    Attend all scheduled staff meetings, provide feedback for improvement, and participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

    Support fellow employees during busy periods and fill in for absent staff when needed to maintain service standards.

    Supplemental Responsibilities:

    Write customer orders clearly on tickets and provide ticket stubs for identifying completed orders.

    Organize and maintain the dining area, setting up tables and clearing them after use.

    Help prepare food items when needed, such as carving meats or portioning desserts.

    Handle and store food and beverages according to Lodge Bread Company’s safety and quality standards.

    Ensure that the dining area is clean, inviting, and well-stocked at all times, and address any customer concerns promptly.

    Tools & Technology:

    Point-of-sale terminals, credit card processing machines, and point-of-sale software

    Cappuccino makers, espresso machines, coffee grinders, and blenders

    Commercial dishwashers, food slicers, and food warmers

    Ice dispensers, ice-making machines, and food thermometers

    Food packaging materials, such as takeout containers and wrapping supplies

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Previous experience in customer service or cashiering, preferably in a bakery, café, or food service environment.

    Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers and team members.

    Ability to multitask efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

    Basic math skills and ability to process transactions accurately.

    Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods (up to 8 hours).

    Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.

    Must have a positive attitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

    Work Environment:

    This position is located in a busy, fast-paced bakery and café setting. The Cashier will be expected to interact with customers regularly, remain on their feet for extended periods, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Cleanliness, organization, and professionalism are key components of success in this role.
