  • Responsibilities

    This position is aligned to the Generation side of the business. Experience with Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Distributed Control Systems (DCSes), Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VIe, etc, will be critical for this role.

    The key skills for this resource will be:

    • Experience working in a Power Generation facility
    • VMWare vSphere, including vSAN, ESXi, and vCenter is nice to have but not required
    • Server management (hardware and software)
    • Operating Systems, deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and patching
    • Basic scripting skills
    • Experience with software supporting patching, antivirus management, whitelisting, blacklisting, configuration management, network and system monitoring, or security and event monitoring Basic Purpose
    • Provides engineering design and support services for the electronics and software (Operational Technology) required to control and manage power generation, automatic generation control and real-time energy management.
    • Conceives, develops and implements unique solutions to operational technology problems.
    • Conceives, develops and advocates strategies for managing obsolescence, replacements and upgrades.
    • Furnishes technical direction and project support to plant or control center staff on operational technology matters. Provides leadership and mentoring for junior engineering staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Provides control system software and hardware support to ensure safe, optimal and reliable operations.
    • Works with Operations and corporate technical staff for troubleshooting, determining solutions, and supporting corrective actions for instrumentation and programming logic issues.
    • Works with Operations to develop and implement control system logic, display modifications and custom functions.
    • Develops Common Information Models for new or modified Generation, Transmission and Distribution elements.
    • Works with the control system software vendors as required for trouble issues that have escalated for product support.
    • Provides control system user account administrations for Operations and Maintenance groups. Coordinates Electrical System Control Center (ESCC) local and site failovers for security patching, software upgrades, and other related maintenance.
    • Determines applicability and completes testing of security and application updates.
    • Assists team members in applying updates.
    • Manages and maintains installed computing infrastructure, including network and network connected devices.
    • Manages and maintains computing infrastructure asset inventory.
    • Provides beginning-to-end technical support for capital and operations and maintenance projects to include development of the business case, scope, budget, and schedule, as well as testing, installation and commissioning.
    • Evaluates and manages vendor and contractor support efforts related with modifications, maintenance and project activities.

    Job Description:

    The Control Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, optimal, and reliable operation of our industrial control systems that power our generation facilities. In this hands-on position, you will work closely with operations and corporate technical staff to troubleshoot issues, develop solutions, and implement control system logic, display modifications, and custom functions.

    Your expertise in power generation equipment, systems, and software will be invaluable as you conceive, develop, and implement unique solutions to operational technology challenges. You will provide technical leadership, mentorship, and project support to plant staff, advocating strategies for managing system obsolescence, replacements, and upgrades.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide control system software and hardware support to ensure safe, optimal, and reliable operations.
    • Troubleshoot and determine solutions for instrumentation and programming logic issues in collaboration with operations and technical staff.
    • Develop and implement control system logic, display modifications, and custom functions for operations.
    • Develop Common Information Models for new or modified generation, transmission, and distribution elements.
    • Collaborate with control system software vendors for escalated troubleshooting and product support.
    • Manage control system user accounts and coordinate system failovers for maintenance activities.
    • Evaluate and test security and application updates for applicability and complete installations.
    • Manage and maintain computing infrastructure, including networks and connected devices.
    • Provide end-to-end technical support for capital and O&M projects from scoping to commissioning.
    • Evaluate and manage vendor and contractor support efforts related to modifications and maintenance.

    Required Experience/Skills:

    • Experience working in a power generation facility.
    • Expertise in Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Distributed Control Systems (DCSes), Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VIe, etc.
    • Strong understanding of server management (hardware and software).
    • Proficiency in operating systems deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
    • Basic scripting skills.
    • Experience with software supporting patching, antivirus management, whitelisting, blacklisting, configuration management, network and system monitoring, or security and event monitoring.

    Nice-to-Haves:

    Education:

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
