Job Title: Senior Accountant
Summary
This position is a part of the Inventory and Supplies Accounting functional team. The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing month-end journal entries in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) related to their assigned functional accounting area. The role requires a strong understanding of United States GAAP, the ability to analyze and explain the impact of journal entries on financial statements, and the completion of balance sheet account reconciliations. The Senior Accountant is also expected to assist other teams within the organization, provide variance analysis, and participate in various projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare month-end journal entries in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring complete and accurate supporting documentation.
- Conduct variance analysis for assigned accounts, comparing actual results to budget and trends, and provide explanations to accounting leads and managers during month-end financial statement reviews.
- Complete month-end balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Assist other teams with information requests related to the assigned functional area as needed, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to resolve issues promptly and satisfactorily.
- Participate in various projects, including but not limited to researching GL transactions, process improvement initiatives, and providing assistance during the year-end external audit.
- Develop a deep understanding of healthcare-specific accounting issues relevant to the assigned functional accounting area.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the purpose of journal entries, evaluate their appropriateness (including GL account usage and financial statement line item classification), and articulate their impact on financial statements.
- Ensure that source information for journal entries is well-documented and ask relevant follow-up questions to validate the appropriateness of documentation, which may involve estimating current month activity based on historical data.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- CPA license is not required, but candidates pursuing CPA certification are preferred; some assistance is available for individuals seeking licensing.
- Previous healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
