Summary
The Catering Prep Chef supports the culinary team by preparing ingredients, assembling dishes, and ensuring all food is event-ready. This role focuses on efficient, high-quality food preparation, organization, and packaging for off-site catering events.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and portion ingredients for catering menus, including meats, vegetables, sauces, and sides
Follow event-specific prep lists and recipes to ensure consistency and quality
Assist chefs in cooking, assembling, and packaging menu items for transport
Label and organize food according to event and delivery schedules
Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas, coolers, and storage spaces
Ensure all food is stored, handled, and transported according to food safety standards
Help load catering vehicles and confirm all items are packed securely and correctly
Monitor inventory of ingredients and supplies; report shortages to the Head Chef or Catering Manager
Support event setup or service as needed during large or high-volume events
Assist with cleanup and restocking after events
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Prep Cook or Kitchen Assistant (catering experience preferred)
Knowledge of food prep techniques, portioning, and safe food handling
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately under time constraints
Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team
Valid Food Handler’s Certification (as requred by local regulations)
Physical ability to lift 40+ lbs and stand for extended periods
Work Schedule
Hours vary based on event schedule; may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
