Our family has been serving Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas with imaginative foods, quality ingredients, and reliable service for over 35 years. We’ll cater any event from corporate meetings to grad parties to weddings, and everything in between. We’ll even bring ‘the kitchen’ to our clients & their guests!

    Under the direction of the Head Chef, the sous chef is responsible for hiring, training, overseeing, and leading the prep team while preparing delicious food for clients and staff. They must have a team player mindset, strong leadership skills, experience in off-premise catering, and be able to assist the other departments of the company when needed. They are also responsible for maintaining the kitchen cleanliness, equipment, inventory levels, and other ServSafe requirements as required by the State of Michigan.

    Responsibilities Include:

    Directs, coordinates and delegates responsibilities to prep staff to ensure goals and objectives of the kitchen are met on a daily basis.

    Schedule kitchen staff according to weekly needs

    Properly use kitchen equipment such as a mixer, meat slicer, smoker, fryer, grills and ovens

    Set up and maintain food production, serving, and merchandising according to the standards set by Catered Creations, Inc.

    Create new recipes and menus that fit the clients needs and off-premise catering hold times

    Show initiative to improve work processes and methods in their position

    Ensure the proper holding and batch cooking practices required by the company

    Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of inventories in coolers, freezers and dry storage

    Ensure quality food production while being efficient

    Accurately follow and complete all daily production orders

    Follow instructions for special dietary needs and/or allergies along with the knowledge needed to convert items in order to ensure the foods served will comply with all special dietary needs

    Be the leader of the kitchen team and delegate daily prep items to team members

    Resolve conflict with team members in a constructive manner

    Ensure all orders are prepared properly by the kitchen team

    Set up, restock and tear down buffets while leading a team on events

    Train new team members to Catered Creations standards

    Perform other duties as assigned by the company

    Reports to the Head Chef

    Requirements of the Position:

    Strong leadership skills and be able to coach employees

    Positive attitude, a sense of humor, and a hunger for learning

    Humble and team oriented

    Manage time well, not just theirs- but also their team’s time

    Management experience of 2 years

    High volume catering experience of 1 year

    Maintain a regular full-time work schedule including overtime and weekend/holiday availability

    Reliable and able to work when scheduled

    Stand for 8+ hours at a time

    Must be up to required physical standard including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and the ability to carry at least 25 lbs.

    Valid driver’s license and maintained a good driving record

    Follow a recipe and convert any necessary measurements and quantities as required by the client

    Initiative to correct problems, address immediate issues with ease and confidence

    Ability to accept responsibility for work performance and be open to any positive or negative feedback relating to their position and/or those they supervise

    Maintain a safe work environment and ability to follow all safety and sanitation rules, procedures and guidelines

    ServSafe certified or become certified within 90 days of employment

    Compensation based on 45hr work week
