Job Summary:
The Cath Lab RN will coordinate patient care for pre, intra and post Cath Lab patients within the standards and guidelines of the organization.
Job Duties:
The Cath Lab RN will provide patient care in compliance with policies and procedures, and the standards of professional nursing as defined by the BNE of Texas.
Essential Functions:
- The RN is responsible for patient assessments, pre and post procedures using the nursing process to provide the highest level of care.
- Initiate nursing interventions and carry out physician orders per policies and procedures.
- Proficient in starting IVs and administering medications within her/his scope of practice.
- Perform phlebotomy and run ISTAT lab work as well as participate in quality control and assurance as outlined in the procedural manual for the ISTAT analyzer.
- May assist the physician with bedside procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Communicate any patient status changes to physician as appropriate to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Utilize equipment in the department according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Assist with maintaining stock items and medications and adequate par levels for the holding area.
- Actively respond to emergent situations appropriately to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain current BLS/ACLS certifications.
- May delegate appropriately to the staff in accordance with their job description, license requirements, and standard of practice.
- Provide emotional support and teaching to patients and their families.
- Understand and use universal precautions and radiation protections as indicated.
- Will admit, discharge and transport patients as required.

Skills/Qualifications:
- Hold current State of Texas license as a Registered Nurse
- Demonstrate a satisfactory level of angiography procedures performed

Physical Demands/Hazardous Conditions:
- Able to lift, push, and pull with assistance (mechanical or co-worker) the weight of an average patient specific to the area
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Some exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents
- May be exposed to some laser beams
- Exposure to x-ray with appropriate radiation barriers/protective equipment

HIPAA Requirements:
The Cath Lab RN has access to Protected Health Information of the practices’ patients and understands the privacy requirements as prescribed by federal and state laws.
