    Product Design Engineer - Connectors

    As a Product Design Engineer - Connectors at our company, you will play a crucial role in the development and design of cutting-edge connectors for integration with flexible harnesses. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Connection Systems Engineering, you will be responsible for creating 3D models and 2D prints, as well as ensuring the release of our low- and high-voltage connection systems.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Utilize your expertise in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V5, Solid Works, or UG) to develop innovative connector designs.
    • Create part designs for progressive die and injection molding processes, considering the use of different materials such as resins and metal.
    • Drive concept development, prototyping, and production phases to deliver high-quality connector designs.
    • Follow APQP processes for project documentation, ensuring accurate and thorough records.
    • Support validation testing to ensure the durability and performance of connectors at both bench and vehicle levels.
    • Identify and troubleshoot issues, documenting root causes and driving effective resolutions.
    • Participate in design review and XFMEA meetings to incorporate lessons learned and best practices.
    • Utilize rapid prototype development to showcase proof of concept and validate design feasibility.
    • Collaborate closely with internal and customer teams to ensure seamless vehicle implementation.
    • Work alongside manufacturing/suppliers to develop diagnostic tools for production deployment and service.
    • Drive the adoption of best practices and world-class tools, contributing to the creation of new technologies and solutions.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related fields.
    • Proven experience (2+ years) in product design, specifically in automotive connectors.
    • Proficiency in 3D CAD systems, with Solid Works experience preferred.
    • In-depth knowledge of product development for High Voltage / Low Voltage automotive connection systems, including design attributes and industry specifications.
    • Experience supporting product development and manufacture during DV/PV/SOP phases.
    • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with various internal and external teams.
    • A results-driven, enthusiastic, and eager personality is highly desired!

    Working Conditions/Hours:

    • This position is based in Wixom, MI, and requires 100% onsite presence, with occasional travel (~10%) to CelLink locations and customers worldwide.

    Work Environment – Office

    This role involves both a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and a shop environment, with exposure to high noise levels, physical hazards, nuisance dust, and hazardous materials used in the manufacturing process.

    PPE

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses, safety shoes, bump-caps, gloves, hair nets, masks, and clean-room frocks, in adherence to prescribed safety procedures. Ear plugs are recommended in areas with high noise levels.

    Physical Demands – Office

    This position requires the ability to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit, use their hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, manipulate keys on a keyboard, stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and have close and peripheral vision. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance (including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs).
