    Framatome is seeking a Mechanical Tooling Engineer I for the Component Repair and Replacement (CR&R) Tooling and Equipment Engineering Organization at our Mill Ridge Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia.

     

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    The ideal candidate must have a desire to work on a fast paced product development team where our primary customer is the CR&R Field Operations group, who must successfully implement our products at customer sites.  Typical applications are remote controlled machining, welding, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), and surface improvement tools.  We start with an identified customer need, develop a repair concept and follow it through fabrication, testing, and its final usage at a customer site.

     

    The successful candidate must be very hands-on and self-motivated with the ability to work independently in an environment comprised of mechanical and electro-mechanical engineers and technicians.  The selected individual will design tooling parts and assemblies in 3D CAD and prepare production drawings. The selected individual will meet or establish design criteria for tooling required to operate in high radiation environments and/or underwater applications.  The selected individual will design single and multi-axis manipulators, lifting devices, machine tools, welding tools, EDM tools, hardware modifications, and design of partial, full-scale mockup components. The selected individual will design hydraulic and pneumatic systems required to operate and control these specialized tools. The selected individual will also write the operating instructions and procedures related to their equipment, and train the labor that will use the equipment as well as deploy to site for the project.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    ALL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY:

    • BS in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 0 -2 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree

     

     

    THE FOLLOWING MAY BE USED TO DIFFERENTIATE CANDIDATES WHO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION:

    • Must be proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and PLM (SmarTeam/Enovia preferred)
    • Must have a demonstrated proficiency in machinery design
    • Experience specifying electro-mechanical subcomponents
    • Must be able to communicate effectively in oral, written, and presentation formats
    • Machining and welding experience
    • Strong hands-on work skills for equipment/tooling assembly, checkout, testing, refurb/repair, and on-site application
    • Proficient in using Microsoft® Word, Excel, and Project
    • Must be able to obtain unescorted commercial nuclear facility site access, which means a clear criminal history and passing controlled substance drug/alcohol testing
    • Knowledge of mechanical tools and experience performing maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic actuation systems.
    • Experience with fabrication processes and additive manufacturing.
    • Experience with inter-disciplinary design and collaboration combining mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronics, electrical, software, etc.
    • Careful and methodical approach with good attention to detail
    • Creativity and innovation
    • Proven self-starter, able to work / think independently, and budget time across multiple tasks with a desire to see projects through to completion

  • Qualifications
    • Serve as a main point of contact for communication with Owners, OPMs and Design Teams members.
    • Coordinate and provide input during weekly meetings with subcontractors, design teams, and owner representatives to resolve field conflicts and drive resolution.  
    • Support project cost and change management process: prepare reports for review with other team members and present at both Owner and internal meetings. 
    • Assist in development of estimates and bid proposals for both lump sum and GMP projects. 
    • Oversight/Management of Project Engineer and associated responsibilities including document Control, RFIs, Submittals, Material Delivery Tracking and Meeting Minutes.
    • Mentor: support, develop, and train supporting team members, including Project Engineers.
    • Maintain close relations with subcontractors, including early notification of submittal & material delivery schedule expectations.  
    • Monitor executed subcontracts and insurance certificates; verify contracts and insurance are in place prior to commencing work.  
    • Coordinate with Project Scheduler to update and distribute project master schedule with input from Superintendent and project team.  
    • Assist the project Superintendent and other team members in the resolution of all critical issues, RFI’s, etc. with a focus on quality, cost and schedule; provide documentation as necessary.
    • Take ownership of the closeout process: complete and implement project closeout checklist. 
    • Manage close-out documentation (as-builts, O&Ms, warranties, test reports, etc.) for submission to Design Team and Owner.
    • Manage financial closeout process with subcontractors and Owner.
    • Punch List: Upload and distribute the punch list through Procore to subcontractors. Assist with coordinating work completion as required and maintain an accurate log of items to be completed. 
    • Observations and Field Reports: work with project team to conduct field walks as necessary and compile any corresponding documentation accordingly.
    • Review Design Team field reports and work with required parties to resolve open items and drive to resolutions.  
    • Safety: perform regular safety walks with field and safety staff and record observations.
