    Job Description

    The Desktop Publishing Graphic Designer produces a variety of printed materials used in the administration of large-scale, high-stakes language assessments. The Desktop Publishing Graphic Designer is responsible for producing professional, press-ready documents (multiple page test booklets, scripts, score sheets and other ancillary materials) in Adobe InDesign, using test content developed by the test-development team and in-house art team, following an internal style guide and other print specifications determined by the client and print vendor. The Desktop Publishing Graphic Designer is also responsible for developing new Adobe InDesign templates for use by the test development team and participates in the creation of test blueprints used in the creation of printed materials. In addition, the Desktop Publishing Graphic Designer edits and formats graphics in Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe Photoshop for use in printed materials. Finally, the Desktop Publishing Graphic Designer assists with quality control reviews of test content and works with the test-development team to implement revisions.

    A successful Desktop Publishing Graphic Designer is able to work independently as well as collaboratively to produce error-free documents, conduct quality control checks of documents, and make edits based on feedback from multiple stakeholders to meet production timelines.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Transfer assessment content (text, graphics) to Adobe InDesign using required templates and specifications
    • Create new Adobe InDesign templates for new layout requirements that adhere to required print specifications
    • Modify and edit graphics or images using Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop to meet print specifications
    • Create production blueprints for the assembly of test content
    • Successfully meet multiple concurrent deadlines
    • Collaborate with test-development team to execute the intended vision for the test content
    • Participate in mock administrations of test content and note and implement required revisions
    • Review work of self and others to ensure quality and accuracy
    • Review and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to continuously improve test designs and test-taker experience
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education

    Associates’ or Bachelors’ degree in Graphic Design (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is required.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Graphic Designer, Desktop Publishing specialist, Print Production Artist or similar role
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
    • Experience producing complex “press ready” multiple page booklets and documents in InDesign
    • Experience with proofing your own work and the work of others for quality control purposes
    • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a team environment
    • Experience working in a remote environment

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud software, particularly Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Knowledge of Print Production processes, including file preparation, color management, and output formats
    • Ability to faithfully transfer content from Microsoft Office documents (Word, PowerPoint) into Adobe InDesign with minimal errors
    • Ability to adhere to multiple competing deadlines and provide updates on the status of progress toward said deadlines
    • Ability to manage work time effectively and prioritize multiple tasks/projects
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
    • Ability to find creative solutions to design challenges, such as fitting content within space constraints or addressing readability issues
    • Meticulous eye for detail and version control
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Experience with the production of assessments or educational materials a plus
    • Knowledge of braille a plus

    COMPENSATION:

    Minimum Salary: 59,500.00; Benefits eligible

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate. The employee may be required to sit or stand in a stationary position for 50% of the time. This position constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment. CAL adheres to ADA compliance and guidelines as a common practice.
