    Summary:

    The Center for Veterans Research and Education (CVRE), whose mission is helping to support

    innovative research and education initiatives that improve the health and well-being of Veterans, is

    seeking a Research Health Coach.

    Position Description:

    The RAMP Research Health Coach will assist the research team in delivering a telehealth

    program teaching mind body skills to Veterans to help them manage their chronic pain. The

    program explores the important connection between our bodies and minds, and how to use this

    special connection to manage pain more effectively. The RAMP program involves working with a

    health coach to develop a plan based on individualized goals. This is followed by 11 facilitated

    group sessions including education and training in different tools and strategies. This study is

    funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) at the National Institute of Health

    (NIH).

    The VAntage Research Health Coach will assist the research team in delivering intervention

    phone calls. The Veteran Social Support Intervention for Enhancing Smoking Treatment Utilization

    and Cessation ( VAntage Support) project is evaluating social support networks as a proactive

    outreach approach to enhance cessation treatment utilization among Veteran smokers. The role of

    social network influences and social support on successful smoking cessation is established. The

    project developed a social support intervention for diverse family members, friends, and other

    adults who wanted to help a smoker quit. It is expected to be especially beneficial for Veteran

    smokers who might not otherwise access cessation treatment. This study is funded by the VA

    (Veterans Affairs) Health Services Research (HSR).

    Responsibilities: Major duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the

    following:

    • Deliver intervention program sessions.
    • Follow a coaching manual reviewed and approved by the Minneapolis VA IRB
    • Track and communicate with participants throughout the study, answering questions.
    • Provide materials (physical, electronic) to participants as directed .
    • Maintain timely completion of regulatory documents. Participate in data collection for

    approved protocols.

    • Handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality, and be in compliance with
    • Communicate on a regular basis with the coordinating team.
    • Perform complex tasks, coordinate processes and get involved in decision-making.
    • Other duties assigned.

    HIPAA, state and federal regulations for conducting research with human subjects.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelors (BA/BS) degree in public health, sociology, psychology or related

    allied health field from an accredited college or university.

    Specific education in health and wellness coaching.

    Experience: 1 year of specialized research experience. A candidate without such

    experience will be considered with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    Licensure/Registration/Certification:

    Current certification as a Health and Wellness

    coach by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC)

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

    • Experience in coordinating multiple tasks and project elements with differing timelines and

    completion deadlines.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to understand, adapt to and

    facilitate discussions with diverse people, teams, perspectives, and cultures.

    • Ability to calmly and effectively react in emergency situations.

    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

    Conditions of Employment:

    • Subject to a criminal and educational background check.

    • Typical hours fall within standard business hours, work may be required during hours

    beyond standard business hours, including weekends.
