    JOB SUMMARY

    The Financial Data Analyst is an integral member of the Reliance Corporate team and is tasked with working across the Financial & Operational Analysis, Financial Systems and Reliance Technology Solutions (RTS) Business Intelligence capabilities. The Financial Data Analyst’s primary focus is on aligning, deepening and improving efficiency of internal and external data access and analysis across financial and business intelligence systems. This role will ultimately develop into a key part of the "glue" between corporate business intelligence and data science, financial systems and corporate financial, operational and market analysis competencies.

    To accomplish this goal, the Financial Data Analyst must have a fluency in big data with ability to enrich, manipulate and analyze large data sets, ultimately connecting the dots between information and action. You must also possess intellectual curiosity and an entrepreneurial spirit with a penchant for asking valuable questions and seeking out value-add work.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Business Intelligence and Data Science:
      • Build partnership with corporate business intelligence and data science teams and leverage company's BI tools to identify key business driver relationships for corporate analysis and more nuanced operational insights for further investigation by Operations team.
    • Financial Systems:
      • Partner with Financial Systems team to roll out new enterprise-wide consolidation and reporting system.
      • Collaborate with Corporate Financial & Operational Analysis Manager and Corporate Group Controller team to adapt current reporting to and optimize new accounting system utilization.
    • Financial, Operational & Market Analysis:
      • Maintain and improve corporate analytical reporting framework.
      • Assist with analysis and commentary on the financial performance of the business, highlighting trends and any unusual relationships that may require further investigation and analysis.
      • Develop and maintain operational highlights and intercompany performance benchmarking framework.
      • Drill into operating results of underperforming business units and prepare benchmarking analysis against similar business units.
      • Contribute to quarterly financial forecasting process and longer-term strategic planning.
      • Perform ad hoc financial analysis as requested to support key business decisions.
      • Assist with data gathering, maintenance and research on key end markets and commodities.
      • Support environment, society and governance data collection and analysis for corporate sustainability reporting and operations optimization.

    Required Skills

    • Quantitatively rigorous bachelor’s degree
    • 1-2 years of experience in an Analyst role, or equivalent, with commodity market exposure preferred but not required
    • Some data analytics and modeling experience
    • Basic, SQL, Microsoft Power BI proficiency
    • Strong Excel working knowledge with large, complex data sets
    • Experience with data management, specifically with data validation, augmenting, and cleaning.
    • Experience mining, processing, manipulating, enriching, profiling and analyzing large datasets, interpreting them for key business drivers and opportunities.
    • Basic understanding of financial, operational and economic analysis principles.
    • Demonstrated mind for both open-ended analysis and closed-ended problem solving.
    • Effectively collaborate across business intelligence, data science, corporate accounting and corporate analysis capabilities.
    • Strong time management skills with experience navigating concurrent workstreams, both routine and ad hoc.
