In March 2021, US Waffle, leader in pancakes & waffles joined the Cérélia family; in June 2021, we will open a new, state-of-the art, 150,000 sq.ft. factory in Columbus, Ohio.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to Lead and facilitate the integration of EHS processes, standard operating procedures & policies, assists in administering programs and training in compliance with Federal and State regulations and standards. Counsel and support operations management and employees in activities to achieve a safe and healthy working environment. Benchmark best-practices to achieve top standard EHS performance results. This is a hands-on role with significant time spent in all parts of the operation, observing, monitoring, training and coaching employees towards EHS goals and initiatives.
This role will report directly to our Director of Operations will work out of our brand new state of the art manufacturing facility in Columbus (Whitehall) Ohio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
EHS PROGRAM & KPI
- DRIVE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EHS PROGRAMS TO ACHIEVE EHS EXCELLENCE. THIS WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO ALL ENVIRONMENTAL EXPECTATIONS, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENTS (SRA’S) AND EHS PROCEDURES, HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, ERGONOMICS, CONTRACTOR SAFETY, EHS CULTURE, ETC.
- DRIVE IMPROVEMENT AND TRACK GOAL(S) ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH COLLECTION, ANALYSIS AND COMMUNICATION OF EHS AND KPI DATA (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PROGRAMS EVALUATION, WORKPLACE AUDITS, TRAINING COMPLETION, INJURIES AND ILLNESSES AND OTHER SIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN AN EHS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
- DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT APPROPRIATE CORRECTIVE PREVENTIVE ACTIONS / CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS.
- DRIVE EHS COMPLIANCE TO ENSURE COMPLETION AND ACCURATE RECORDING OF EHS METRICS, INCLUDING TRAINING, AUDIT FINDINGS, INSPECTIONS, ETC.
- MONITOR AND RECOMMEND BEST PRACTICES, AND DEVELOP POLICIES, PROCEDURES RELATED TO ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY.
- PARTICIPATE IN THE DESIGN PHASE OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, OPERATION, AND CAPEX PROJECTS.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
- ENSURE ONGOING COMPLIANCE AND INTERPRETATION TO INTERNAL PROCEDURES AND OSHA REGULATIONS.
- LEAD EHS PERMITTING PROCESSES, BEING A CLOSE LIAISON WITH LOCAL REGULATORY AUTHORITIES TO ENSURE OPERATIONS/ACTIVITIES ARE IN FULL COMPLIANCE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
- GIVE INPUT TO LEADERSHIP TEAM ON VARIOUS COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS AND DRIVE COMPLIANCE ASSURANCE PROGRAM IN OPERATION TO ASSURE COMPLIANCE WITH INDUSTRIAL SAFETY, ERGONOMICS, CHEMICAL SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS.
- MAINTAIN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF APPLICABLE BUSINESS AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
- MAINTAIN AND SUBMIT NECESSARY RECORDS TO REPORTING BODIES, SUCH AS BUT NOT LIMITING TO OSHA.
- MAINTAIN SDS DATABASE AND RECORDS.
SAFETY TRAINING PROGRAM & SAFETY CULTURE
- TRAIN EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS ON BEST PRACTICES THAT WILL ENSURE SAFETY WHILE OPERATING MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT. (I.E.: FORKLIFT, EWP (ELEVATED WORK PLATFORMS) SCISSOR, ARTICULATING AND TELESCOPIC BOOM LIFTS, MOL HEIGHTS/FALL ARREST (HOISTING), N95 FIT TESTING, LOCKOUT LOTO (MACHINE GUARDING), LADDER AND CONFINED SPACE).
- DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EMPLOYEE SAFETY TRAINING INITIATIVES AND RECORDS.
- CONDUCT EHS TRAINING COURSES AND FACILITATE SAFETY COMMUNICATION IN THE PLANT.
- PARTICIPATE ON THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM, LEAD QUARTERLY DRILLS AND EXERCISES.
- ENSURE OPERATIONAL EXECUTION OF THE EMERGENCY CONTINGENCY/FIRE SAFETY PLAN.
- ENSURE THIRD PARTY SAFETY COMPLIANCE (CONTRACTORS, DRIVERS, ETC.)
- LEAD AND DIRECT TEAM MEMBER SAFETY COMMITTEE.
RISK MANAGEMENT & OPERATION
PERFORM RISK ASSESSMENT OF NEW AND CURRENT EQUIPMENT AND PROCESSES.
PROVIDE SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE TO SUPERVISORS AND EMPLOYEE SAFETY TEAMS, ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATORY AND EHS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS.
EVALUATE FACILITY EHS CONDITIONS, ASSESS RISKS, ANALYZE TRENDS AND PERFORMANCE.
CONDUCTING INJURY / ACCIDENT / INCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS AND REPORT FINDINGS AND CORRECTIVE PREVENTIVE ACTIONS.
FOLLOW-UP ON SAFETY CONCERNS AND PROVIDE GUIDANCE.
CONDUCT REGULAR SITE INSPECTIONS AND PROGRAM AUDITS.
ANALYZE INCIDENT AND ACCIDENT STATISTICS AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO PREVENT A REOCCURRENCE.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- FOLLOW ESTABLISHED PROGRAMS, POLICIES, AND PRACTICES TO PRODUCE SAFE, QUALITY FOODS THAT MEET SQF, REGULATORY, COMPANY, AND CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND/ OR EXPERIENCE:
- CERTIFIED REGISTERED SAFETY PROFESSIONAL AND/OR MINIMUM OF 5+ YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE WORKING IN A SIMILAR ROLE, PREFERABLY WITHIN A MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT.
- MUST HAVE A SOLID UNDERSTANDING AND INTERPRETATION OF VARIOUS HEALTH AND SAFETY LEGISLATIONS, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, SPECIFICALLY OSHA.
- EXPERIENCE IN MANAGING AND LEADING EMERGENCY/CRISIS PLANS (IE; COVID-19, ETC.)
- MUST BE EXPERIENCED IN DEVELOPING AND CONDUCTING TRAINING AND OVERSEEING ONGOING INITIATIVES.
- EXPERIENCE IN CONDUCTING SAFETY INSPECTIONS AND AUDITS, CONDUCTING INCIDENT, ACCIDENT AND NEAR MISS INVESTIGATIONS.
COMMUNICATION AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS:
- STRONG VERBAL/ WRITTEN COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS WITH THE ABILITY TO POSITIVELY INFLUENCE MEMBERS OF THE MANAGEMENT TEAM AND LEAD HSE INITIATIVES.
- STRONG ANALYTICAL SKILLS WITH ABILITY TO IDENTIFY ISSUES, TRENDS AND DRIVE SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE H&S.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
