JOB SUMMARY
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for ensuring patient comfort and providing both clinical and administrative support. This includes assisting patients while they wait in the waiting room, doctor’s office, or hospital ward, as well as recording any health complaints before they consult with a healthcare provider.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate.
Perform basic laboratory tests and collect patient specimens.
Document medical histories and vital signs into electronic health records (EHR).
Maintain and update patient records on an ongoing basis.
Administer medications and injections, explaining their purpose and effects to patients.
Draw blood as required.
Greet and collect information from patients upon arrival.
Escort patients to examination rooms and assist healthcare providers during patient assessments.
Assist with administrative tasks such as billing, invoicing, coding, and scheduling appointments.
Organize office space and perform light cleaning duties when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/JOB KNOWLEDGE
High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Must have one of the following:
Certified medical assistant (CMA)
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent mobility to assist with patient care and administrative tasks.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple task deadlines.
Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Occasional exposure to infectious diseases.
Maintain alertness and awareness throughout the workday.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will not supervise.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Clinical Duties: Take medical histories, assist with examinations, administer medications, draw blood, and prepare patients for procedures.
Laboratory Duties: Collect and prepare specimens, perform basic lab tests, and ensure proper specimen handling.
Vital Signs: Measure and record vital signs to establish baselines for future exams.
Wound Care: Assist with wound care and dressing changes.
Administrative Duties: Update and file patient records, schedule appointments, manage billing and insurance coding, and handle correspondence.
Patient Liaison: Provide patient support, help them feel comfortable, and explain physician instructions.
Room Preparation: Prepare and sanitize examination rooms and ensure supplies are stocked
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficiency in medical record software and office administration tasks.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and ensure patient confidentiality.
Working knowledge of Google Workspace.
Aptitude to learn other software programs as required for this position.
EMPLOYMENT VARIABLES
Must have a good driving record that meets the minimum requirements for Evergreen and reliable transportation.
Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends when required.
