    Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant – Addiction & Recovery / Behavioral Health

    Position Type: Part-Time (up to hours per week)

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) to join our outpatient addiction treatment and recovery clinic. Working under the supervision of a licensed physician or advanced practice provider, you will deliver empathetic clinical care, perform specialized toxicology workflows, and support patients undergoing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in accordance with Indiana law and clinical guidelines.

    Key Clinical Responsibilities

    Conduct routine clinical intake, including measuring vital signs, recording medical/substance use history, and performing COWS/CIWA assessment prep.

    Collect and process biological specimens (urine, oral fluid, blood) for toxicology screens following strict chain-of-custody and CLIA-waived testing procedures.

    Administer intramuscular injections (e.g., Vivitrol/Naltrexone, Sublocade) as delegated by the provider and compliant with Indiana MA scope of practice.

    Perform phlebotomy, routine blood draws, and infectious disease screenings (Hepatitis C, HIV, TB testing).

    Monitor patients post-injection or during ambulatory detoxification for adverse reactions or distress.

    Sanitize exam rooms, manage medical supply inventory, and maintain lab equipment calibration logs.

    Key Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities

    Strictly adhere to federal 42 CFR Part 2 regulations and HIPAA guidelines regarding substance use disorder record confidentiality.

    Coordinate prior authorizations for addiction medications, specialized labs, and secondary referrals.

    Maintain non-judgmental, trauma-informed communication during patient interactions to foster engagement and retention.

    Document all care, lab results, and patient communications accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

    Required Qualifications

    Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

    Certification: Active national credential (CMA by AAMA, RMA by AMT, CCMA by NHA, or NCMA by NCCT).

    BLS: Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

    Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of 42 CFR Part 2 patient privacy laws and Indiana delegation standards.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1+ years of experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or psychiatric outpatient care.

    Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) protocols (buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone).

    Training in de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care.
