Position Summary
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for implementing occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. This role follows established plans of care to support patients in improving functional independence and quality of life while adhering to all organizational standards and policies.
Essential Responsibilities
- Participate in ongoing evaluation of patient functional status including mobility, coordination, communication, and self-care abilities, as directed by the Occupational Therapist
- Assist in evaluating the home environment for safety risks and barriers to independence
- Provide treatment interventions focused on restoring or improving daily living skills
- Educate patients and caregivers on therapy techniques and safety strategies
- Follow treatment plans and document patient progress and responses accurately
- Maintain timely and compliant clinical documentation per company policy
- Communicate changes in patient condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care
- Participate in case conferences, in-services, and team meetings
- Assist with identifying additional patient care needs and facilitate referrals when appropriate
- Support caregiver and staff education as directed by the Occupational Therapist
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current Nevada COTA license
- CPR certification
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Reliable transportation and valid Nevada driver’s license
Experience: Home health or clinical experience preferred, but not required
