Certified Surgical Technologist

Position Summary
The Surgical Technologist assists surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures to ensure a safe, efficient, and sterile operating environment. This role involves preparing the OR, organizing sterile instruments and supplies, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team throughout the procedure.Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgery by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly sterilized and available.
- Set up the sterile field and arrange surgical instruments and equipment according to procedure type.
- Assist surgeons and surgical assistants by passing instruments, sponges, and other items during procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow during surgery.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures in collaboration with circulating nurses.
- Handle surgical specimens properly and deliver them to appropriate areas.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock the operating room after each procedure.
- Check and maintain surgical equipment to ensure it functions properly.
- Collaborate with the OR team to promote patient safety and positive outcomes.
- Follow all hospital policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Certification:
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred (NBSTSA or NCCT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Experience:
- [Preferred: 1+ year of surgical experience in an acute care or ambulatory surgery setting.]
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to remain focused and calm in high-pressure situations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods and move quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to lift and position patients or equipment as required.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision tasks.
