    About the Role

    Bowman Steel is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (AWS/CWI) to support quality control and inspection activities across commercial and industrial structural steel projects. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of steel structures while supporting field operations with accurate inspections and clear communication.

    As a CWI, you will play a key role in maintaining quality standards, coordinating with field leadership, and ensuring projects are executed correctly the first time.

    What You’ll Do

    Daily Responsibilities Include:

    • Perform visual inspections of welds, metal decking, and bolted connections to verify code compliance.
    • Ensure adherence to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and AWS standards.
    • Coordinate with contractors, foremen, superintendents, and project managers to support project execution.
    • Assist the Project Superintendent with daily job-site activities to ensure safe, timely, and efficient operations.
    • Calibrate welding machines, oversee testing procedures, and document inspection results.
    • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
    • Train and support new hires on AWS D1.1 standards and inspection expectations.
    • Maintain detailed inspection reports in accordance with company and project requirements.
    • Promote a quality-first and safety-driven job-site culture.

    Requirements

    • Certification: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection experience or equivalent Quality Control Inspector (QCI) training.
    • Industry Knowledge: * Structural steel construction experience * Familiarity with AWS D1.1, D1.3, RCSC, SDI, and AISC standards
    • Technical Skills: * Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction specifications * Basic math and computer skills * Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
    • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Vision Requirements: Ability to pass the Jaeger J-2 eye exam (minimum one eye).
    • License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • Travel: Willingness to travel out of state as required.
