    Job Description

    SUMMARY:

    Reporting to VP Displays, the Engineering/Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating a team of engineers and technicians to achieve technical excellence on development projects as well as internally funded R & D activities.  Providing technical guidance and establishing project management structure to ensure on-time, on-budget performance, the position requires a unique balance of technical knowledge and ability to manage technical professions.  The position will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing company and supplier resources to ensure all assigned program cost and schedule milestones are met.

    Additional responsibilities will include:  management of schedules, design oversight, cost/benefit analysis, with involvement in development, test, certification, customer service, quality, reliability, and entry-into-service.  The Engineering/Program Manager is expected to 1) perform design activities approximately 25% of the time, allowing him/her to maintain and better process and design strategies, 2) use approximately 50% of his/her time to establish, implement and monitor processes and technical oversight of all projects, and 3) use another 25% of his/her time to support business development activities including customer and vendor relationships.

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Develop human resources including hiring and performance evaluations; the team currently includes mechanical and electrical engineers, physicist, electro-mechanical designers and drafters.
    • Assign work and establish priorities within the engineering group
    • Overall technical and program management of all development projects including New Product Introduction activities
    • Identify area for Research and Development
    • Establish design strategies
    • Participate in Strategic Planning to define and structure technology and product road maps
    • Manage configuration management and documentation control processes
    • Oversight of program control activities and product specifications which includes coordinating the implementation of engineering changes to existing production
    • Preparation of engineering estimates, program risk analysis, technical development plans as well as coordination of project personnel activities to ensure programs are completed on-time and on-budget
    • Sustain and develop engineering tools and capabilities to support business objectives including solid modelling software
    • Monitor technologies and develop understanding of latest development in the industries.
    • Responsible for organizing and communicating work and results in both formal and informal settings
    • Coordinate and chair customer meetings, SRR, PDR, CDR, PRR as well as other internal meetings required to achieve program objective
    • Support and coordinate preparation of statement of work, proposals, cost estimates and negotiation of contract terms and conditions with customers and suppliers
    • Maintain and nurture relationship with customers
    • Provide support of supplier selection process during development
    • Provide supplier oversight of critical components and systems for production, direct QA and Manufacturing teams based on program needs
    • Function as a member of the BU Management Team member participating in setting and achieving the overall BU objective.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering with minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience preferably in aerospace.
    • A minimum of 10 year experience in managing diverse team of professionals including design and research engineers.
    • MBA and/or PMP qualification is ideal
    • Demonstrated ability to build teams, highly result oriented with strong interpersonal skills
    • Understanding of SolidWorks tool and file management system is a definite plus.
    • Experience in flat panel AMLCD in aerospace or military applications: An in-depth understanding of LCD and related technologies including electro-mechanical packaging, optical bonding, touch screen and module design.
    • Experience in managing programs that have multiple phase form development to manufacturing; typically 6-18 months long
    • Prior experience at original equipment manufacturer is a plus
    • Strong analytical and practical knowledge of new product design processes.
    • Knowledge of Military and Commercial Aerospace environmental specifications MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 and DO-160.
    • Knowledge of electronic hardware design is an attribute
    • Basic understanding of FPGA and firmware
    • Experience with MIL-HBK-217, MIL-STD-3009, MIL-L-85762
    • Solid understanding of design for manufacturing including all documentation for the product release
    • Strong understanding and practical experience in configuration and documentation control
    • Knowledge of DFX tools including demonstrated ability to perform Design of Experiment
    • Ability to apply project management fundamentals; schedule, critical path, risk management and contingency plan
    • Detail oriented with high level of planning and organizational skills
    • Effective written/verbal communication skills in English; computing skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, MS Project)
    • Must have US Person status for this position (per EAR and the ITAR)
