Job Description
The Chef Ann Foundation(CAF) is looking for a School Food Operations Specialist(CA) to assist in key areas within our programs. This is a full-time position working with our programs team, school food contractors, and school district partners.
The ideal candidate will have at least four (4) years’ experience working in a leadership position in a scratch cooking school food operation (in a hands-on capacity), an understanding of what schools need to serve healthier food in a scratch-cook environment, and a passion for supporting districts nationwide in cooking more food from scratch. The ideal candidate will provide support to school districts in CAF’s five key areas of school food operations: food, finance, facilities, human resources, and marketing. We do not expect the individual in this role to be an expert in all key areas, but they should have a significant understanding of each area and be able to lead support as needed. This position will work on Get Schools Cooking, CA Healthy School Food Pathwaysand CA Specialized Programming.

Qualifications
Four (4) years of college, or equivalent advanced training to qualify for a Bachelor’s Degree with a relevant major: Culinary, Nutrition, Food Service.
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in School Food Service Management, with a preference for a cook-from-scratch program.
ServSafe Manager Certificate; must acquire within 90 days of initial employment.
Advanced knowledge of NSLP regulations and proactive about staying informed on new regulations.
Must be based in California and able to travel throughout the state for extended periods of time.
A strong writer and editor, with the ability to create and edit content for school food operators.
Proven experience training school food professionals.
Able to create and run impactful training programs for school food operators.
Very organized and able to meet targeted outcomes.
Able to work in a remote environment and adapt for various school environments
Understands and is able to develop fiscal budgets and modeling for school food programs.
Understands menu planning as it relates to ingredient-based, cook-from-scratch meal programs.
Understands K-12 recipe/menu software.
Advanced knowledge of K-12 procurement including RFPs, purchasing cooperatives, and inventory management.
This position will work primarily with the programs team to support CAF’s school food district partners in California. This position will be the operational contact with all of our CA Pre-Apprenticeship / Apprenticeship host districts and CA Get Schools Cooking districts. This position will support the Sr. Director of School Food Operations in providing onsite technical assistance to Specialized Programing districts in CA. In addition, this role will ensure that all district operations data is kept up to date, ensuring that we have timely records of district progress.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise
Answer technical and operational questions regarding USDA regulations, procurement, school food operations, etc.
Provide onsite and virtual operational expertise and support to Get Schools Cooking and Customized Programing districts to further their transition to a scratch-cook operation.
Review all operational content associated with district work and provide feedback on recommendations for districts and technical assistance.
Attend meetings as needed with funders and stakeholders to answer operational questions.
Provide Pre-Apprentices and Apprentices with guidance on key learning objectives and competencies.
Support food service directors with the educational components of the Healthy School Food Pathways program.
Programs Support
Be the operational contact for CA district hosts in the Healthy School Food Pathways program.
Work to bring on new host districts for the Healthy School Food Pathways program and certify new districts to be training sites.
Participate in the interview process for CA Pre-Apprentices and Apprentices.
Provide onsite training for districts and other partners as needed.
Work with the programs and development teams to prepare program proposals in response to RFP’s, grant applications, and new work streams.
Represent CAF in trade-based channels, conferences, and collaboratives.
Develop and present presentations for webinars, conferences, and other public presentation opportunities that are focused on specific areas of school food operations.
Lead or participate in all virtual learning sessions for the Healthy School Food Pathways program.
Work with the programs team to complete implementation tasks with districts that contract with CAF.
Compensation
Compensation ranges between $62,000 - $80,000 per year and will be commensurate with the candidate’s previous experience and credentials.
