MOW YOLO APPROACH
Meals on Wheels Yolo County (“MOW Yolo”) is adding a Chef Assistant to our already inspired team. We are looking for a Chef Assistant who will:
Offer focused support to the Chef and other Food Services and Operations Department staff
Prioritize nutritious food security and socialization so that seniors in the region may EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive.
Positively represent MOW Yolo internally and externally
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chef Assistant reports to the Food Services Manager to support the Chef and collaborate with other team members to prepare healthy meals that meet the diverse dietary needs of seniors in the region. The work of Chef Assistant furthers MOW Yolo’s mission to nourish and engage vulnerable older adults and others with mobility challenges throughout Yolo County and beyond.

USUAL WORK SCHEDULE:
The Chef Assistant is a full-time (30+ hours per week), non-exempt position, working Monday through Friday, 5 days a week and assigned to the Winters meal production facility. Overtime may occasionally be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Chef with meal preparation in accordance with approved recipes, nutrition standards, and daily production quotas.
Support efficient meal production using farm-to-fork ingredients while adapting to substitutions, minimizing waste, and maximizing available resources.
Coordinate meal preparation with delivery and service timelines to ensure food quality, proper temperature, and presentation.
Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, including Yolo County Environmental Health and MOW Yolo standards; report supply shortages and equipment issues as needed.
Serve as a positive and flexible team member, supporting MOW Yolo’s mission, utilizing electronic systems as required, and assisting with meetings and additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced commercial or institutional kitchen environment, with the ability to meet deadlines safely and efficiently.
Strong communication skills and a positive work ethic, with the ability to work collaboratively, build camaraderie, and interact professionally with staff, volunteers, and external partners as needed.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following written and verbal instructions, maintaining production records, and upholding safety standards.
Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive movements.
Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity in responding to changing priorities while contributing ideas that support and advance the MOW Yolo mission and culture of innovation.
POSITION LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current California Driver’s License.
Proof of automobile insurance.
ServSafe Food Manager certification. (MOW Yolo pays for this training if it is needed).
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$23.00 per hour, payable per the regular payroll schedule and subject to applicable withholding and payroll taxes and other deductions required by law. Full-time employees receive paid medical insurance, dental, vision, vacation and sick time accrual, 11 paid holidays annually, and the option to participate in a 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.
