We are seeking an experienced Chef / Sous Chef to lead our Prepared Foods Department at The Boys Farmers Market. This role combines hands-on culinary craftsmanship with kitchen management responsibilities, offering the opportunity to shape a menu of fresh, market-driven prepared foods while overseeing daily kitchen operations.
Job Summary
The Chef / Sous Chef will manage the day-to-day operations of the Prepared Foods kitchen, ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation. This individual will lead kitchen staff, maintain rigorous food safety compliance standards, and collaborate closely with store leadership to deliver a best-in-class prepared foods program that reflects the freshness and quality expected.
Responsibilities
Lead daily kitchen operations within the Prepared Foods Department, ensuring smooth workflow and timely production
Execute seasonal menus that highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients
Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff to maintain high culinary and operational standards
Enforce strict food safety compliance, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices in accordance with local and state health codes
Work with leadership to manage inventory and portion control to minimize waste and control food costs
Monitor kitchen equipment maintenance and cleanliness to ensure a safe working environment
Collaborate with store management to align prepared foods offerings with customer demand and seasonal availability
Maintain food safety compliance
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of professional culinary experience, including experience in a chef or sous chef role preferably in retail grocery environment
Proven experience in kitchen management, including staff supervision
Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance standards (e.g., ServSafe certification or equivalent)
Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
