    Summary

    The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports to the CEO; leads all clinical operations, quality initiatives, and medical staff. Ensures patient-centered, high-quality care. Chairs the Quality Assurance Committee.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical Leadership & Strategy

    • Lead and mentor clinical team; foster accountability and excellence

    • Oversee onboarding, training, and performance of providers

    • Develop and enforce clinical protocols, workflows, and policies

    • Supervise and evaluate NP/PAs; precept clinical trainees

    • Conduct audits and lead retraining on documentation and follow-ups

    • Coordinate recruitment, credentialing, and professional development

    • Maintain liaisons with hospitals and other health partners

    • Participate in management team and provider staff meetings

     

    Quality Improvement & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with NYS DOH, HRSA, NCQA, and other regulators

    • Lead Quality Assurance Committee and oversee QA/QI plan

    • Monitor UDS measures, patient safety, satisfaction, and grievances

    • Conduct clinical audits; manage risk assessments and corrective actions

    • Serve as clinical lead during audits and ensure CLIA/FTCA/OSV compliance

    • Evaluate patient programs and lead community health needs assessments

     

    Operations & Staffing

    • Collaborate with COO on patient flow and wait time improvements

    • Monitor provider productivity and recommend efficiency strategies

    • Set call schedules; recommend medical equipment purchases

    • Act as liaison between providers and administration

    Governance & Reporting

    • Report clinical performance and compliance to CEO and Board

    • Support PCMH accreditation and participate in strategic planning

    Clinical Practice

    • Provide direct patient care, including preventive and chronic care

    • Maintain thorough, timely documentation

    • Participate in call coverage

    Qualifications

    • MD or DO; board-certified in a primary care specialty

    • Licensed to practice in New York State

    • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
