    Employment Type: Full-Time
    Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5-day work week (9 AM–6 PM or 8 AM–5 PM based on organizational needs)

    Position Overview:

    The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a high-performing veterinary hospital. This leadership role drives strategic growth, ensures efficient operations, and supports clinical excellence. The COO manages business performance, staffing, compliance, and client services, aligning daily operations with long-term goals.

    Reporting Structure:

    • Reports to: Ownership group (or designated Managing Partner)

    • Direct Reports: Nurse Manager, Client Services & Reception Manager

    • Supported by: HR, Finance, Purchasing, IT & Facilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    Hospital Operations:

    • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure staff training and compliance.

    • Standardize patient care protocols aligned with ethical and regulatory guidelines.

    • Benchmark performance metrics and lead improvement initiatives with ROI tracking.

    • Support staffing and decision-making during high caseloads and emergency events.

    • Oversee infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness procedures.

    Client Service & Communication:

    • Implement client education programs to ensure clear understanding of care plans and follow-up.

    • Set and monitor service quality benchmarks.

    • Manage the full client experience from admission to discharge and follow-up.

    • Address client concerns and implement service recovery strategies.

    Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:

    • Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and maintain licensing and certification records.

    • Conduct internal audits and coordinate updates with legal advisors.

    • Lead training programs on compliance awareness and proper documentation.

    • Serve as the main contact for licensing and regulatory authorities.

    Human Resources & Workforce Planning:

    • Oversee department heads, interns, and student placements.

    • Participate in hiring and disciplinary processes in collaboration with HR.

    • Maintain internship and externship records and schedules.

    Finance & Operational Efficiency:

    • Prepare and manage budgets and forecasts.

    • Work with finance on procurement and capital planning.

    • Analyze financial performance and recommend cost-saving strategies.

    • Provide financial reports to ownership and ensure policy compliance.

    Desired Qualifications & Skills:

    • 10+ years of experience in healthcare, hospital, or veterinary operations.

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare management, or a related field.

    • Strong leadership in operations, finance, HR, and client service.

    • Excellent communication, decision-making, and organizational skills.

    • Ability to lead diverse teams with professionalism and empathy.
